Hello:

Realize there are probably no statistics on this, but in a general sense,
does the taking of Saw Palmetto "help" a "majority" of users ?

Have been taking (160 mg twice/day)  for bph problem for 6 months now, and
doubt that it has had any effect, whatever.

Does it help a substantial number of users, or just a small percentage ?

How is it supposed to work ?

Thanks,
R.

If you've noticed no effect (no improvement in stream or reduction in
frequency) in 6 months then it's not working.  Save your money.  Didn't work
for me either.

Make sure the Saw Palmetto you use has 85-95% fatty acids and 160mg SP
per pill.  This is what was studied and found effective.  There's lots
of Saw Palmetto out there that is not based on this formula and others
that don't have the amount of Saw Palmetto advertised on the bottle.
Before you give up on SP, try another brand.  I use Prosta-Metto from
the Vitamin Shoppe. The item # is VS-2119.  Good luck.

I tried three different brands all of which had the correct formulation as
you indicated below.  Flowmax and Uroxatral didn't work for me either.
There's a PVP in my future.

Mileage really varies.  Generally, guys with medial
lobe enlargements receive no benefit.  Play several
different brands, start at 320 mg/day.  If it's going
to work, you'll know within 4-6 weeks--then drop
to 160 mg /day.  I used it for 5 years with a left lateral
lobe enlargement.  Did the job

I took it for about two years and finally faced the fact that it wasn't
helping at all.  I'm now taking Flomax, which is moderately helpful, but
the side effects are unpleasant and it's not a real solution.  I'll be
seeing a urologist in a couple of days to pursue other options.

Most guys report good results in 6 to 12 weeks or consider it
a failed experiment.  I had success with a left lateral lobe
enlargement.  Most people with medial lobe enlargements
find that SP does nothing.
