Gentlemen:
I am 67 yrs old and have had BPH for some time. Four years ago I had a
TUNA and it worked for a time. When symtoms started to return a few
years back, I used saw pametto and later Flomax. Flomax keeps my
stream up quite well. I have to get up several times at night to pee
but that's it.
Went to a uro a couple of weeks back and he waved an instrument over
my gut after voiding. It showed that I still hade 12 oz of urine
remaining in my bladder after voiding. At that time I didn't have to
pee but that was quite a lot of urine still in there. I had no
sensation of it at all.
Uro recomends a pressure test. Had it done in a Tucson Hospital
outpatient clinic. It was quite an experience and it took about an
hour. It was embarassing and unpleasant but tolerable.
Results....just as the doctor stated....my bladder retains too much
urine after voiding. I have an appointment with him next Thursday and
he will decide what to do. I will keep you posted.
Question: What are some solutions to this problem?

hi al - i had a ring formed in the floor of my bladder and they used the
ultra-sound on me after voiding and stated i was retaining urine also.
unfortunately, my problem got solved by itself - the hard way. the next
month, i was dx'ed with prostate cancer and it came out to greet the doc
in april 2003. this allowed the bladder to go back in it's shape and
all is well as far as that part is concerned.
i asked the nurse at the time they were doing the ultra-sound about the
hazards of retention and she said it would be a lot easier to get urine
infections.
keep everyone posted as i'm sure they would want to hear your story more
than mine.
best of luck,
