Well, I expect I'll get a few "We told you so's" to this one!<G>

Had a long hard day out shooting (hunting) yesterday. The birds
were scarce and wild and I had a party of six to keep happy.
Part of my ground has been "mounded" for forestry. A machine
digs out a small pit and deposits the excavated material on the
surface where they plant a young tree. It is bad ground to walk
on any time but with a covering of ice it is lethal.

Anyway, we finished the day around 4.30pm and I slipped off for
a quick pee. A good stream but my urine was the colour of the
best Beaujolais. Far more blood than I have had before, even
right after PVP or the biopsies.

I wasn't unduly worried as it does not take much to colour a
liquid (think of milk in tea or coffee) and it had been a rough
day. By late evening, the urine was more rust coloured. No pain
and no other problems. The only sign that I'd even had PVP
recently has been very occasional small scabs of sloughed tissue
in the urine which we all know is normal.

Phoned the health centre emergency line when I got home as felt
someone ought to be informed and spoke to the doctor on call. He
confirmed that it is probably just the rupture of a minor blood
vessel and nothing to worry about but he warned me to phone
again if my temperature went up, if I became shiverish, and
if I had lower back pain, etc. I am to report to the health
centre on Monday with a sample of urine.

Around 5am the urine was almost clear (....anyway, I think it
was. At that hour I doze and it's possible I dreamt it!). But
this morning it is rust coloured again.

Just thought you guys ought to know that these things can happen
post PVP and I will keep you informed.

I too will confirm that setbacks can occur.  I'm now 16 days post PVP.  I
felt really good so I started to return to normal activity.  Also took some
Alleve (naproxen) and had a drink of bourbon.  Blood in urine returned and
now have a strong burning sensation at the end of the stream.
Alcohol and naproxen also created problems after my biopsy.  So went out
last night with friends but took no pills.

Straining this morning due to continued constipation in spite of
two Senakots brought on bleeding again first thing this morning.
The urine was almost pure blood.

I've taken it easy all day with my feet up beside the fire and
with lots of non-alcoholic fluids. I'm glad to report that my
urine is now back to normal so presumably I did not dream about
that normal urine during the night!

Quite scary, actually, to see almost pure blood coming out and I
am not the sort of person to be easily frightened. It seems to
be only certain actions that strain the prostate region as I've
had no problems with my regular activities which can be quite
strenuous.

Have you tried Lactulose, Derry? (Replacement for liquid paraffin, no
longer available.)

By the way, I recently heard about an excellent replacement for
'straining'. Wish I'd known about it years ago...

Instead of straining downwards (holding one's breath to do so),
tighten your stomach muscles - as if trying to pull in your stomach to
protect from a blow. Do this whilst breathing normally.
You should find it stimulates downwards movement of the contents of
your bowel. Works for me.

Yes, I agree. Thanks Derry, and let's hope it clears up by itself swiftly.
