Can you stand one more testimonial for PVP?
I had mine in March. I had discussed several alternatives with my
uro. My last question to him was, "Is there anything new coming out?"
He mentioned PVP and was enthused with its potential. Indicated his
group would be able to do it soon. I did considerable research and
decided to wait until it became available. I was his 4th. I felt
confident only because he had considerable experience with lasers.
I'm glad I waited. No pain whatsoever. No catheter. The only
difficulty I had was with my first urination. Somewhat difficult due
to swelling, but when I got it started, no problem. Had blood in the
urine for a few days, and traces for a few weeks afterwards, mostly
because I didn't take it as easy as my uro recommended. The more
active I was, the more lifting I did, the more blood I had.
For the first couple months, the urgency to urinate was extreme,
especially when I stood up. This has decreased over time to where it
is now no concern. I sleep through the night. I can take long car
trips without stopping. I no longer need an aisle seat on an
airplane. I can golf 18 holes while drinking plenty of fluids and
never have to stop for a leak.
Even after 5 months, I continue to see improvement. I do notice that
my flow is not as strong immediately after waking, but I do empty
completely. And this is also improving with time.
I have not experienced retro or a decrease in drive. I did have retro
shortly before the surgery while on Flomax. The only change is that
I now seem to have a problem with nocturnal erections. They are
abundant, and I could do without them. (I guess it wouldn't be too
bad if I had the dreams to accompany them.) Anybody else experience
this?
In my opinion, having a PVP versus the other procedures is a no
brainer. There is no comparison. If my bph comes back, I won't
hesitate to have another.
I had a cold immediately after the surgery. The cold was MUCH worse
than the surgery or my recovery.

Glad you had a successful PVP as so many of us have had. I'm sure
some people on this group would like to know who your uro is and where
he is located. Many are still having trouble finding a uro close to
home who does the PVP procedure.
Like you, I had night time erections but only for a couple of weeks.
I still have retro, but that was a probability for me because of a
large median lobe well into the neck of the bladder. I also got a
cold after the PVP and for me it was just as bad as the "recovery"
from the PVP surgery. I put the recovery in quotes, because after I
got the catheter out (5 days, because of Memorial Day holiday) I mowed
my lawn the next day, with a self-propelled mower.
