I realize it is OT, but maybe you folks have some knowledge about this.
I am supposed to see the new PVP urologist on 1/5.
I'm a 57 yr. old male. I was shoveling snow. Bottom line: I slipped badly
on the ice about 8 hours ago. I went up and then landed hard on my left hip.
I'm in a lot of pain.
However, I can walk (slightly gingerely, but pretty good). I assume since I
can walk okay and I am in pain but not excruciating that I haven't broken my
hip (I am hesitant to go to the ER-- it's expensive and I really don't want
to be hanging around there for 5 hours!).
Assuming it is "just" a badly bruised hip and not broken, how do I take care
of it?? I tried ice for a bit. I am also trying a hot-pak (and that seems to
work better).
Anyone have some knowledge about this? Any suggestions???
I need to get better before seeing the uro!!!

Post this in ( sci.med.hip.pain ). Just kidding.
Use hot water bottle while sitting or laying down. That will probably help
give you relief. You should get something to read like a magazine and soak
in hot baths daily for the next week. You can also go to a health food
store, or the like, and get some cream for pain, rub it on, and see if that
helps.
Regard's, and happy holidays people.
