After reading all the comments on PVP and TURP, I was surprised I found
no comments on the above treatment for BPH.  Also on the INDIGO LASER
procedure either.

When I was in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, last year I saw an article in the
local paper from the Urology Center of Florida.  In it, it claimed the
following re TUNA.  No more...painful prostate surgery, hospital stay,
lifetime medicine, lengthy recovery and it was an in-office procedure
and you walk out.  Claimed over 25,000 happy patients.  The Doctor was
Craig Wm Herman, and it was also covered by Medicare.  Ad stated: TUNA
is a quick and safe, FDA-approved procedure that uses computer
technology and radio frequency to treat enlarged prostates in just 18
minutes.

I kept this ad in case my BPH got worse and figured I would check
further into it success rate along with the Indigo Laser method which
has gotten  good writeups.

I have been taking Flomax for my BPH, and today after seeing my
Urologist as I had an infection and my flow was down to nothing, he gave
me some antibiotics and a NEW pill that just came on the market in
December, which treats BPH and decreases size of prostate, its called
AVODART.  You can search the web for more info on it.

Again, would like to hear from anyone who has had TUNA OR INDIGO LASER.

I have been taking Avodart for 4 months now, the GP says that it takes 6
months to become effective, I have had some relief in my flow recently
whilst taking this med.

Bill,

I had TUNA and PVP.  The TUNA took about an hour in the Urologists office.
After the procedure there was no pain, no catheter but also no favorable
results.  In fact my symptoms got worse and it took about 6 months to get back
to where I was.  TUNA is an attempt to get the prostate to relax its pressure
on the urethra.  It does not remove the obstruction.
Had PVP about 5 years later.  No pain, had catheter overnight and immediate,
favorable results.  PVP removes the obstruction and creates a clear channel.
There is no comparison between the two.  Basically, for the same amount of time
and commitment on your part, get PVP and forget about TUNA, Targis, TUIP, TUMP,
etc. Also, Medicare paid for my PVP.

I had TUNA almost a year ago here in Atlanta. I didn't realize at the
time but it was one of the first My Uro had done (even though he is
middle aged ). It took 45 minutes from start to Finnish maybe 5-10
minutes for the actual procedure. There was some discomfort but nothing
bad. I wore a catheter over the weekend because he did it on a Friday.
This was the worse part for me. You don't get any immediate results but
things improve  after six weeks and continued to improve up to three
months in my case. I get up 1-2 times a night now as opposed to 3-4
times. My Son took me to the procedure but I probably could have driven
home without any problem but they won't let you do that since they give
you a tranquilizer. There was some bleeding and stuff coming right after
taking out the catheter. If there had been someone offering Laserscope
in Atlanta at that time I would have gone that route. If you have any
other questions feel free to e-mail me. Lots of  luck. Grant Mahan
