Have you BPH folks had these symptoms:

1) Discomfort and inflamed feeling in groin area (sometimes base of penis,
sometimes bladder, sometimes testicles)

2) Feeling of not totally emptying occurring with that inflamed feeling --
sort of reinforced by an extra drop or two or three after you have urinated?

I'm awaiting a visit to a PVP uro on 1/5 (see other post about that)

You are simply describing BPH and in all probability a median lobe
enlargement of the prostate

Mel,
You are describing inflammation of the whole groin area.
This is very common.

For years my doctors were saying I have prostatitis and then they called it
BPH.

What is happening is that as the prostate enlarges it creates imflammation
of the whole pubic area.  You don drain completely, you hold residual.

I noticed that after the PVP, I drained fuild for the next several days,
reducing my wieght by several pounds.

After the PVP, I never had any symptoms of prostatitis or imflammation at
all.

Several pounds of fluid? Wow! Where do you speculate all that extra fluid
had built up, and why was it able to drain after the PVP?

Fantastic! Happy for you.

Best regards.

My whole lower admoninal area was "puffy" all the time before PVP.  I had
that dull ache in the groin area including testicles.  I believe that the
entire area was inflammed and was retaining fliud because of the large
amount of constant residual in the bladder and incomplete draining.

Once the bladder obstruction was removed by the PVP, the whole area drained
over the course of several days, perhaps a week.  Inflamation subsided and
my whole lower admoninal area was no longer "puffy".  I no longer had that
dull ache in the groin area.  So 17 years of
"prostatitis" was magically cured.  That's is why I believe that I never had
prostititis and that all my problems for all those years was due to bladder
outlet obstruction caused by a slowing enlarging prostate median lobe.

( please excuse me for the long post ).

WOW!

You just described the way I am feeling and have felt for the last 2.5
years! It's a bit eerie to read your testimonial and the type of suffering
you endured because of the similarities. I am genuinely happy that you have
some relief because I know how that feels. That really is amazing you found
an answer! I have chronic pelvic pain syndrome and like you, it has been
thought that the main reason was due to chronic prostatitis. It is true that
my prostate is involved to a certain extent due to the documented
inflammation in my prostatic secretions. ( which is quite significant ), and
I have had some bacteria isolated in those secretions, but I have always
wondered whether or not these abnormalities in my prostate are the cause or
effect of a bigger problem? I have the sense of fullness in the pelvic area,
( underneath pubic bone ), pain upon full bladder, scrotal pain, as well as
the feeling of not quite completely emptying after voiding. For the most
part no treatment directed towards chronic prostatitis has helped, ( and I
have tried numerous therapies ). Due to all those past treatment failures,
( including seeing physicians in Toronto, California, and most recently
Europe ), I discussed the possibility with my local urologist, ( Canada ),
that my bladder may be playing more of a role than anyone first thought?
Everyone's been treating prostatitis, but it's not helping. We decided to do
a cystoscopy with hydrodistension and sure enough it revealed interstitial
cystitis. I do not believe there were any lesion's on the bladder wall, but
he noted a small bladder and narrow bladder neck. After the cystoscopy I do
have an increase in my pelvic pain, ( the same pain I had always suffered
from ), and that confirmed to me that yes, my bladder is involved, but even
though my pelvic pain did get worse after the hydrodistension,
interestingly, I noticed a much better urine flow. I'm not sure why that
happened, but I attributed it to the rigid scope he used to pass through the
bladder neck and view the bladder, or maybe he scraped away some prostatic
tissue during the procedure and did not deem it necessary to inform me?
Irregardless, your testimonial is quiet interesting and I wonder if the
bladder obstruction in your situation may be something that I should take
note of? It really is amazing regarding the similarities and how your
symptoms pelvic fullness diminished after PVP. Did your doctor agree that
the pelvic pain was caused by a bladder outlet obstruction resulting from
the gradual enlarging of your median prostatic lobe, or is this just your
summarization?

????`????,,,,????`????,,,,????`????,,,,????`????,,,,????

Wow!

Too bad they don't have PVP in Canada. Are you on the west coast? I would
like to know what tissue in and around your prostate your doctor took away
during your PVP? Was this an empirical treatment modality, ( experimental ),
or was it quite obvious your prostate was infringing into your urethra?

OY! I could probably write a book regarding the attempts I've made to get
better. It's an odd feeling walking the streets in Europe and realizing your
only there to see the sites due to chronic pelvic pain. I don't recommend it
to anyone....hehehe.

Good luck to all.

It would surely have been drained during the PVP. If I remember correctly my
father in law had three litres drained from him after being taken to
hospital.

Narrow bladder neck detected

I am 34 years old.  I started getting pain in the groin while running
and doing almost any physical , sexual activity about 2 years ago.  To
make the long story short, after going thru 5 Urologists I finally
decided to settle on a uro that I was comfortable with  in July 2003.
Semen culture indicated enteroccocus bacteria in July 2003. The uro
did prostate massages for 3 weeks ( twice a week, August 2003) since
my prostate was mildly boggy and put me on Cipro while doing the
massage.  Pain the the groin subsided a lot after the massage. The
last 2 prostate massages did not bring out any fluid so we stopped and
finished with Cipro about 10 days later (in early September 2003)
after the final prostate massage.

I started getting frequent urination and dribbling after I went for
the prostate massage. I did not have dribbling before the prostate
massage.  I started getting a lot of itching sensation in the urinary
tract after completing the Cipro and prostate massage treatment.

I went to another Uro in November 2003. I went thru another semen
culture about a month ago.  I was prescribed Geocillin for 50 days for
enteroccocus bacteria found in my semen culture. I am on Geocillin
now.  It seems like although the prior prostate drainages helped a
lot, Cipro was not able to penetrate to get rid of the bacteria
completely. While on geocillin I went for prostate massages again for
about 2 weeks.  I also  went thru UroDynamics, Cystoscopy, Prostate
Ultrasound and was told yesterday that I had a narrow bladder neck.
He also mentioned that I had a small prostate.  My only options
according to the uro was to either take Uroxatral for the rest of my
life or invasive surgical procedure (which he advised against cuz of
me being young).  Although he does PVP, he did not mention that as an
option.

I went back to the Uro who had done prostate massages in August 2003.
He said, he would have to do cystoscopy again with a hard scope and
that he could dilate the bladder neck during the cystoscopy that could
relieve my frequent urination and dribbling symptoms. I have
researched dilation on the net and people who have their bladder neck
dilated seem to be happy with it.

My groin pain has significantly subsided to almost zero and I can run
and have sex again without pain but I will be on geocillin for another
20 days.

Do you think that the prostate massages could have caused the narrow
bladder neck (due to trauma from the the massages)? What do you think
about dilation of the bladder neck?

Can you please help and advise?

Thanks
