I've had problems since I was a little kid. I went to get a second
opinion from
a urologist, and he scared the crap out of me. My original urologist
did not
confirm his diagnoses, saying not to rush into anay surgery. And to
keep taking my flomax and I've been getting great results with saw palmetto.
Before I do anything drastic, I've researched, I'd go to John Hopkins
and really
get the expert, state of the art opinion. Too many people are too lazy
or bothered
to travel.
I learned my lesson on travel the hard way, with hernia operations. Done
locally,
they were horrible, painful procedures, and one failed. When I had one
redone
I traveled to the Hernia Institute of Florida, the difference was like
day and night,
virtually no pain, no recuperation, and no tension. I've recommended a
few folks
travel there, and they have all thanked me profusely and were amazed at
the results,
while other's suffer with old fashioned, general antiquated surgery. Go
to and with the
best.

If you have to have a prostatectomy, Dr. Walsh, Johns Hopkins Urology
Dept. is the man to have do the surgery. However, unless you have
been diagnosed with prostate cancer, you don't need a prostatectomy.
I don't know of anyone at Johns Hopkins who does PVPs, which will
relieve slow flow rates, need to urinate frequently, multi nightly
trips to the bathroom, and many painful urination problems. If you
don't have those symptoms, then yes today you don't need surgery, but
eventually you probably will. As we age the prostate keeps growing.
This group can recommend a number of urologist who can give you a
second opinion regarding do you need to have surgery and all they all
do PVPs. There is one, Dr. Lin in Saint Augustine, who has done PVP
surgery for a number of people from this group, up to 200 gm
prostates in fact. I used him as an example because of your server's
address has Tampa Bay in it. But, from what I have read on this
group, you would be hard pressed to find a better PVP surgeon in this
country.

I'm on the other coast, the Central East Coast of Florida. Any
suggestions there?
(the Space Coast)
I'd love a third opinion.

For some reason the east coast of Florida only has one doctor doing PVP.
Fortunately he is one of the best. I had Dr. Wen Lin do my PVP over a year ago
with great results. He is in St. Augustine. I live in Boca Raton and was
quite happy to drive the 265 miles to rid me of the scourge of BPH.

Yes, the one I gave you in Saint Augustine, Dr. Lin, he is with the
Flagler
Hospital, 400 Health Blvd. in St. Augustine, phone numbers (904)
797-2921
or 819-4427.
But don't call him unless you are looking for someone to do the PVP
surgery. Only you can determine that. Are you comfortable with your
present urinary conditions? flow rate, times going during the day and
night, how much control over your bladder do you have? If you are
willing
to continue like you are now, then don't call, if not call. There is
no
question in my mind that PVP is the procedure to have to resection
(carve
out) your prostate to get rid of all the symptoms that I mentioned.
You
may get retrograde ejaculation because of problems with the median
lobe of
the prostate being well into the neck of your bladder.
Dr. Lin did a member of the group with a very large prostate, 200 gms,
who
my PVP uro would not do because of its large size. He is very happy
with
his results.
