My urologist told me I had blood in my semen because my bladder was not
emptying completely. this caused an infection. he  has me taking one month
of uroxatral 10mg.
seems to help- get up 3 times a night-before was 4 or 5 times.   I will see
him again in one month.  Is this the beginning of the end?
thanks

No, it wasn't the end for me.  However, hang in
there with your Uro and be alert to any symptoms
even after the current situation is cleared up.
I've had two bladder infections and they tend
to 'bounce' back after everyone thinks the
'cure' has happened.

I had a sudden flare up like that about 8-years
ago.  Age was mid-60's.  Had the above symptoms.
Very very slight vague pain in at base of
spine.  Not enought, to cause concern by itself.

Increase in Saw Palmetto didn't help with
getting-up frequency at night.

Ultrasound confirmed the retention.
Fortunately it was caught before there was
kidney damage.  So far I've avoided any surgery
or thermal work on the prostate.

Once mine settled down doc put me on a small
daily dose of alfa-blocker.  I've used either
Hytrin (1mg) or Cardura (2mg, usually split) on
a daily basis.  I've also avoided Avodart or
Flomax.

When I sense I'm getting worse, I add in one or
two Saw Palmetto gelcaps each week for a couple
of weeks.  For me, a small dose of Saw seems to
"smooth" how the alfa-blocker stays with me
throughout the day and night.  Once things are
"normal", I quit the Saw and go with just the
alfa-blocker.

I'm instantly triggered by any nasal
decongestant spray or pill.

I have had numerous bladder infections. Always put on some antibiotic,it went
away, and a few months later....back again...same regimen again.
Then a couple of years ago the uro said....just for the heck of it....it won't
hurt anything..........take a couple of cranberry pills every day.
Guess what......going on almost 3 years now and not one problem.
Worth a try
Good luck
Gary
