7 weeks after TURP

Following my TURP+laser 7 weeks ago (which I've posted about earlier),
I'm pleased with the results so far.  My bleeding tapered off and
fully stopped after 5 weeks.  I resumed sex after 6 weeks.  As
expected, I have retrograde ejaculation, but my libido, erectile
function and sensations all are just as good as before or perhaps
better (although abstaining for 6 weeks may make it seem better).

My flow is very strong and my bladder is emptying very well.  I'm
voiding up to 600 ml each time and sleeping through the night.  I've
only had one surprise.  At week 6, the morning after resuming sex, my
peeing abruptly stopped mid-stream.  When I pushed, a flesh-colored
piece shot out that appeared to be a piece of prostate cut off by the
TURP cutting wire because it was square (about 0.2" X 0.2") and about
0.8' long.  There was no bleeding before of after this piece passed.
Since I was out-of-town, I phoned my Uro and he said small pieces are
normal following TURP, which cuts pieces off rather than vaporize
pieces like PVP does, but he was surprised at the reported size of the
piece I passed.

I've stopped Flomax completely and don't miss the the annoying side
effects.  I'm still on Avodart twice per week and I resumed daily 81
mg aspirin after the bleeding completely stopped as per instructions
from my Uro.

I've very pleased with my Uro, even though I was initially skeptical
of his non-standard TURP+laser technique, so if anyone is looking for
a recommended Uro in South Florida, let me know.

Thanks for the update, Mr. B! It's very good to hear that things are
going well. Scary about that piece of flesh. Hope there aren't any
more of those. All the best!

Ed - As I recall, your were contemplating having a TURP or PVP and you
were gathering info (exactly what I had been doing for the last
year).  Some of the stories posted are very disheartening and I feel
extremely bad for these guys with unsuccessful results or
complications.  Don't get disillusioned (I almost did).

I think the best advice I could offer is to ask a lot of local old
smart guys for recommendations.  Since so many guys have BPH, you are
likely to zero in on a Uro with a good reputation and experience.
Ditch him at the first sign of B.S. and move on.  The Uro I found has
been in business locally with the same staff for over 20 years and his
reputation was well known.

Good luck and I'll post any other experiences I have or things I learn
along the way.

I had Turp surgery four weeks ago. I still have painful urination and
still getting up 3-4-5 times a night. When should I expect to see
results from my surgery.

I'm now at almost 4 months post TURP.  During my first month flow was
good and pain was minimal even though bleeding continued.  However, at
6 weeks post TURP my flow slowed and almost stopped - which was caused
by piece of the cut-off prostate that I passed, after which the flow
resumed.

This makes me think you may have a similar situation but the cut-off
piece is not passing.  I'm told this is one advantage of PVP
(vaporized pieces instead of cut-off pieces).  I've read other post-
TURP patients postings describe this as a "blood clot" that needed to
be removed, after which the flow resumed.

I hope this info hepls.  Good luck.
