Greetings,

I am 61 and have had BPH for some years. Currently taking 2 Flomax .4 mg
and 1 Terazosin 10 mg per day. This used to be sorta sufficient.

More recently, I go to bed, sleep perhaps an hour, wake with acute
bladder pain and an erection, pee the pot, then resume sleep,
repeating the pain, etc about every 2-3 hours.

The erections are not because I'm "horny". It coincides with the
bladder pain. Is this 100% normal?

Drink near 1 pot of half-caffeinated coffee in the morn, plus a cup
of tea in the afternoon. If I go shopping in the afternoon, I have to plan
rest-room stops along the way. Often can't go an hour without urinating.

I've been getting annual PSA's and digitals religously. Doc says
prostate is somewhat enlarged, but no evidence of PC.

Not sure my meds are doing the job now days. Too damned much pain.

Any/all info/suggestions much appreciated.

 Regards,
 Peetie

Hmm... have you tried cutting out the coffee and tea? Maybe try that
for a few days to get the caffeine out of your system. And moderate
the liquids intake.

But when you say "pain", that sounds sinister to me. I'd run to the
doc to find out what's up.

It sounds s if a bladder infection of some kind is underway; I can
PERSONALLY attest that the intake of ANYTHING containing caffeine very
quickly worsens symptoms such as painful urination, burning or
stinging sensations in the privates either dring or immediately after
voiding, etc.  As well, avoid chocolate and cocoa...

After cessation of use of products containing even TRACE ammounts of
caffeine, it may take as long as a coupe of days to clear the effects
out of your system, so try to have patience if you decide to do
this....The erection stuff sounds kinda weird...

I don't think so. No blood in urine. I took a round of amoxicillin
a few weeks ago aginst possible sinus infection: no change in
urinary function/problem.

I am aware that there are many in this group that have suffered
much more than I ...

So anything "caffeine" is a No-No. I've been on my moderately
caffeinated life-style for decades. My body made adjustments
long ago. I don't doubt what you say, but it's obviously not
the source of the problem.

My po' body seems to cry out for liquids, particularly in the morn. I
presently drink very little after about 3 pm. Hard to imagine that cutting out
caffeine and lowering liquid intake mostly in the morn will make much
difference with night problems (in the long run).

>The erection stuff sounds kinda weird...

I was afraid of that. :-)

Thx,
Peetie

Ditto to previous replies.
What does the cystoscope, DRE, TransRectal- Bladder-renal ultrasound
show?
What does your uro say?
In aditon, to discontinuing all alcohol and caffeine, have caffeine
free teas instead of decaffinated. Rooibos (red) is a good choice. Try
catherizing yourself with a 16 french as needed, each time bladder is
not emptying.
It has helped me so far in the urine retention area with no ER
episodes.
Once-twice a week is my norm, until I find the right uro who'll tell
me something I don't already know.
"Don't tell me how much you know, show me how much you care"
I take no drugs or supplements of any kind. Been there, done that.
Worthless.
Also take cod liver oil (Twin Labs, unflavored 12oz) threee times
daily.
Do a daily diary of all food, urine, bowel movement u consume.
Keep us posted
