Cranberries?

I read somewhere (here?) that cranberries were helpful in treating BPH
frequent nighttime urination. I found some capsules in Wal-mart for $4
for 120. Taking one a day (directions say one or two, three times a day
but I'm cheap) for about two months my trips to the bathroom have been
reduced from three or four a night to zero or one (if I don't drink beer
the evening before). I'm amazed! I hope it's not a coincidence. No noted
side effects - so far.

Might be worth a try for you. Took over a month before I really noted any
effect. Very gradual. More caps per day as per directions might have
worked faster. The label has no brand name (fine print says manufactured
by Rexall). Bottle is pink/mauve in color and says Super Concentrated
Cranberry Fruit 1680 mg.

Obviously I have no connection to Rexall or Wal-mart.

Ken...are you sure it wasn't prostatitis or bladder infections you read
about.  Don't know about cranberries being good for BPH, but if it helps you
and you have BPH then go for it.  How large is your prostate.  Could be a
placebo effect, but it is interesting.  Is it possible your frequencies were
due to bladder irritation and not BPH (although bladder infections can be
the result of urine backing up in the bladder as a result of a BPH
blockage).  I did a quick google and did not find a direct relationship to
cranberries and BPH.  Can you find out what the source was for your info.
Thanks...Pete

I also have prostatitis but I thought the urination problem was caused by
the BPH. I could be wrong.

I have no idea.

Could be. But took a long time, long after I had thought about using the
caps, but had just included them in with the vitamins and other stuff I
take every day. I also take saw palmetto - the combination?

Whatever. It seems to help and that's good enough for me.

I suspect you are correct and my memory was faulty.

Cranberry juice or gelcaps can work on any urinary tract infection in
3 to 4 days. MOST BPH patients must
try it with juice plus the gelcaps and better even buy a cranberry
concentrate.
IF you have symptoms due to any infection, more possible, you will
notice a big change positively.

I have got some of the above for a suffering friend and it has helped
him slightly although he is not really
keen on alternative therapies and only taking little juice. Pl write
yr experience.
