Flomax, Or...?

Hello

Have a BPH condition.

Tried for Flomax now for about 6 weeks, with really no effect in the
frequency
at night.  Perhaps a bit of an improvement.

Saw that there are several non-Beta blocker types of medications available
for this condition, as well as Avodart, etc.

Surprising number of choices, available, surprisingly.

Will talk to my Dr. re the choices of course, but thought I'd like to ask
this first.
Realize the answers are obviously individual-based, but am curious.

Flomax is obviously the biggest advertiser.

But is there one of the other possibilities that has "generally" gained a
consensus of opinions
that it has proven most effective for most folks ?

Is there one other than Flomax that really stands out and has gained the
most acceptance, or is it
Flomax, like all their adds suggest ?

Thanks,
Bob

Nothing really worked for me and the side effects were unacceptable.

Surgery (PVP) out of the question at this time?

Hi,

No side effects for me with Flomax.
No help either, though.

Nowhere near considering surgery.  Ugh !

What side effects from Flomax did you experience ?

Thanks for reply,
Bob

I'm not the OP, but for me, it was the dizziness when getting up from
sitting or laying down. I had to quit going to the gym because after
doing leg presses on the diagonal sled (head below feet) and getting up,
I nearly passed out. I had to hold onto the machine until the dizziness
went away. Any other machine where sitting was required, produced
dizziness, but at a lower level.

Dizzyness as others have reported.  Damn near fell on my face a couple
times.

PVP was a "piece of cake".  I will not hesitate to do it again if the
need arises.
For that reason I do not take any medication that might delay the
need.

I've been taking Terazosin(Hytrin) for over 5 years. I recommend it over
other meds. Depending how late I go to bed I only need to get up once in
the night, usually about 5 AM.
The only side effect is a  slight wooziness on first getting up. It does
reduce blood pressure I have a  strong urine flow..It does not hamper
sex drive

So what do you do?  Just live with it?

I get the feeling that is about the only choice I have too.

I had a MRI and biopsy and cystopy.  Thankfully everything was
negative, but I still have to go once an hour.
I do take Ambien so I can sleep for 6 hours or so before I have to get
up and go.

I took Flomax, but it made me very dizzy when I stood up.  The sexual
sides for Flomax were unacceptable, too.

I have been taking Uroxatral for about a week, but I don't think
anything has changed.

I thought sexual sides would be positive in my case.  Sadly they were
bad too.

Bob,  I have been using (Hytrin) for many year's . I did try Flowmax for one
month and did not work well for me.   The Hytrin is a blood pressure pill,
but is used a lot for BPH.  It will lower your blood pressure, so it may not
be appropriate for you.....

Hope & pray I've found the light at the end of the tunnel
It's been there all these times:
DIET AND LIFESTYLE
I have been abstinent about any kind of drugs since the TURP,
(thinking it would save my marriage, NOT)
Stay away from anything: Alcohol, hot and spicy, meats, fried foods,
to name a few.
Concentrate on: Exercise,  sitz baths, active sex life with a pleasing
partner whom you know and trust, flaxseed oil enemas as needed, fruits
and vegetables, maintaining a BMI weight.
Monitoring your  prostate size via TransRectal Ultrasond every three
months.
Listen to your body, it doesn't lie. Ramón

People are different. For me, alcohol, spicy food, meat, etc. are no
problem... but dark chocolate is!

Re a fulfilling sex life, this can be difficult to realize for some,
of course. The medical system really should make sexual services
providers available for those of us who require that, just as physical
therapists and trainers are available for improving physical health.

Most cities have these services, but they are not in medical facilities. :-)
