It's interesting that some of you guys have been posting as long as you have.
I had the Prolieve TUMT yesterday at around 10:00, local time. I will say
that I had one last talk with my uro just minutes before going for it. In my
case, my symptoms were far milder than most of the guys who've posted here
(no nocturia, for example), and I was mainly interested in getting off the
Flomax and the retro it's caused, after years of taking it. My uro's
credentials are good - former teacher at Duke Med School, head of urology at
a local hospital, etc., and he's qualified in all the procedures. After I
came down on the side of the TUMT, he said that he felt it was a good choice
and what he would have done, given my symptoms. Well, to cut to the chase, I
can only report for the first and second days. The procedure was taxing - 45
minutes is a long time to endure with the burning and urge to urinate, but
not unbearable, like some of the reports I've seen. I was medicated with
ativan, mepergan fortis and a bladder relaxant. I was able to void right
after the procedure. The remainder of yesterday, I was woozy and urination
was painful, with a weak stream. I was up three times last night, urinating
with some difficulty. Today, urination is still frequent and difficult,
because of the internal swelling, but the intense burning is gone, with just
a twinge upon initiation. If I don't get a good, and fairly lasting, benefit
from the TUMT, I'll be moving on to the PVP procedure. I'll try to post from
time to time. I feel that the group is suffering from attrition of those
who've had a good result and it may skew the posts somewhat. BTW, I'm 68, a
few months short of 69 and in good general health...
