I started having slow flow when urinating, that helped and I have been on it
for about 3 weeks
and now the last two nights I have woken up with wet underwear, just the
front but enough
where I feel I may have gone too far or maybe the two are unrelated? Has
anyone experienced this?
Maybe I have a bladder infection? I'm 50 and until a few weeks ago haven't
had a problem.
Thanks for any help, Rich

The effectiveness of SP is questionable. I never had any help from
it. Cranberry juice is effective for infections. Won't hurt to try
it. Any pain?
And a visit to a URO is always a good idea. They can measure if you
are retaining. You are at the age where a check of the prostate size
and a PSA test should be done every year or so.

To contradict, I used Saw Palmetto in tincture form from a herbalist for
nearly ten years. In 1995 the Uro said that I needed a TURP as a matter of
urgency. I rebelled and waited for something better to come along and it was
2005 before I had a PVP. During that time my prostate nearly doubled in size
but I never had any of the extreme symptoms experienced by others and it was
mainly the warnings about retention and possible bladder/kidney problems
that made me really go for it. Frequency and getting up during the night I
could cope with.

PS I tried the prescribed meds at one point and ended up with a headache and
a heart rate of 132bpm.

I have tried Saw Palmetto - it did not do ANYTHING for me.
Waste of time and money. Maybe it helps someone else, but I have
yet to hear about it helping anyone.

I agree with the others that the effectiveness of Saw Palmetto is
questionable. There's no doubt that it helps people... it's just that
placebos seem to work just as well. Which is to say, it's all in your
mind.
On the positive side, SP also produces practically no side effects. So
there seems to be little harm in taking the stuff, except that it
costs a bit of money... as long as you don't depend on it to solve
your problems. That's what urologists are for.

Hi!
Here are some recommendations:
1. Do a search in Google and read about it.
2. Check previous posting about the same subject.
3. It is not a placebo. It works. It is not mental. The effect is the
relaxation of the area helping you to urinate without problems. The potency
is a trial an error per person. I take 4 at night and in the morning - for
the past 4 years. I don't think it will shrink the prostate, but only will
delay the surgery until you understand is really necessary. This is my case
and may not work for you.
a. If you have an infection (prostatitis) you should do something else.
Always inform the Urologist of your intention. I did and he was not
surprised it worked.
4. Urologist like most doctors - does not cure, but "fix" the problem and
sometimes create other in the process with the side effect of their
"medicines". They want to keep the patient as a dependant or recurrent
patient to pay their bills. That’s why there is no cure for nothing since
1956. That's why there is more cancer, tumor, ADD and other sickness. They
“fix” the prostate problems with pills damaging the liver, kidney, etc.
My Case: Like with any product the quality, concentration and additive
varies among brands and the effect too. I am 51 years old, Latino, 6’, 195
pounds. If I do not use it for more than 2 days I have some pain when
urinating. (I think there is a link between red meat/fat and this and other
diseases – go to your video store and look for a video about what we eat on
fast food restaurants.)

Other References:
Always check the “study” – > location, who paid for it, how many or sample,
names and address of the organization who did it. (For years many studies
could not find a co-relationship between smoking and cancer – the company
doing the study were funded by tobacco organizations.)

significant difference = ?
do not support a strong clinical benefit =?
To prevent problems with benign prostatic hypertrophy:
1. Eat a diet low in red meat and high in raw fruits and vegetables
2. Take saw palmetto at a dose of approximately 160mg twice a day, to
start.
3. Take zinc, vitamin b-6, and copper
