I was wondering of those here that have Bph if they have higher PSA level?
I realize this is sometimes true but also here of those with large prostates
and low PSA. I am 46 with large prostate although not a real problem for me
but my PSA as been rising.

12/04 2.5
12/05 2.7
03/07 3.2
had biopsy but found nothing that is good.
Now it is 3.8 6 months later. I have an app with urologist tomorrow. Any in
this group have higher psa but not cancer as they have had it checked.

Infections also cause the PSA to go up- yours looks ok 3.8-I might have it
checked again in 6 months... My PSa spiked -I think to about 10 from 2.5 or
something-had an infection and it went back down..
good luck

Mark,
To me this is an indication that your prostate is growing, If it was
an infection I would think that the PSA would probably be higher and the
measurments wouldn't be quite as evenly spaced but I 'm no doctor only your
URO can make the determination as to what is going on, which you said that
you were seeing him tomorrow. You didn't say how old you are . Let us know
what you find out and good luck to you. Hope this helps.   Dean,

My PSA has never been much less than 4.  Prior to having a TURP in 1998, my
PSA went from 4 to 17 over a period of 10 or 12 years.  Had a couple of bios
along the way, all negative.  After the TURP, it dropped back to 4 and has
remained there since.  My uro said this is fairly common for people with
BPH.  Based on my experience your PSA levels seem pretty normal.

I have been down a long rough road with BPH and very high PSAs
culminating with last week's Benign Retropubic Prostatecomy Surgery
after a failed attempt at PVP (laser reduction of my very large  158
gram--prostate).

But your question was regarding high PSA readings. Mine have been in
the double digits and climbing for about 7 years. Annual biopsies
negative. Ranged from about 11 to about 22 at their highest.  On the
table they had much prostate tissue to biopsy and thank G-d cancer was
ruled out even as they removed much of my prostate (still not as
severe as a radical prostatectomy).

You can follow my still ongoing tale of woe in other Threads usually
with the acronym AUR--Acute Urinary Retention-- in the Title but to me
the name of the game as always been "R/O Ca" and despite difficult
ongoing issues with the reduction of my BPH/Large Prostate, I am
grateful that cancer does not seem to have been the producer of my
high PSAs.

Good luck to you.
