Hi,
I had a prostrate infection many years ago and had fever and PSA was 69.5 or
so. After antibiotics, it came down to 20 and after many years to 6.
Two biopsies proved negative to Cancer. These were taken many years apart.
Now, I am still having infection and some times doctor prescribes
anti-biotics but he stresses drink plenty of water to wash clear the
infection. Water does help but it creeps up again.
Now, I am on 500mg of Ciprofloxacin one twice a day for 10 days. It is
getting almost 7 days and I am still feeling feverish. I feel better.
Couple of days ago, I happen to make water in a trough at a Pub and found
that the first few say 20 to 30 ml was milky and then clear as normal.
Today, I told my doctor and he says it is definitely an infection and not a
Cancer. That was a relief and he has extended the Cipro course for another
ten days.
I hear Cipro makes your muscles weak especially the Ecclie muscle of the
heel. Is it true? I play Tennis and go to Gym as well. Do allotment
digging too. I am 74 years old.
Any suggestion.

Hi Chaudhry...Is your doctor a urologist. If he is, has he massaged your
prostate to get a prostatic secretion out. If he hasn't please ask him to,
and he should look at the secretion under the microscope for pus, bacteria,
and white blood cells. He could also send it to the lab for culturing, but
most U.S. doctors don't do that unless you specifically ask them (in my
experience), and then they only grow it for the standard two days, which
isn't long enough IMO - I have asked them to grow the culture longer, and it
goes in one ear and out the other. What country do you live in.
I have a long history of prostatitis problems (mostly non bacterial, which
tends to be the most prevalent). FYI, the prostatitis newsgroup has long
been taken over and destroyed by a troll (who has more than 10 user names -
Fatty Mawson being his main logo), so it is doubtful that you will get much
help there.
You can google Cipro, and all of the other quinolones to see their side
effects. It's usually best to read the package inserts for the drugs.
Unfortunately all drugs list oodles of side effects (some of them in both
directions, eg hyper___ and hypo___, or fast___ or slow___), so they cover
their a.s in case something happens :-) .
I have taken several of the quinolones many times, and have not experienced
the muscle weakness, but I have read many testimonials they can cause that.
Good luck, and please ask about the secretion. It will give you a better
indication if you really do have an infection in that area of your body.
Hope this helps...Pete
