Two Weeks Post PVP

I'm a 71 year old geezer who had the PVP procedure a couple of weeks
ago and am not yet sure whether it was of any help.  I see the
urologist tomorrow and hope he can reassure me that things will
eventually turn out all right.  I had the TUNA thing last year to no
avail, but was told that the PVP procedure was far superior and would
probably solve all my problems.  Maybe so, but here's how things stand
right now.

I'm making trips to the john about 8 - 10 times during daylight and
3-4 at night.  My average output at urgency is about 8 ounces,
although once in a while I can crank out 12 ounces to much jubilation.
I have burning every time, especially as the flow ends. The stream is
generally weak, but dribbling has stopped.  I had a lot of blood in
the urine for 6 days after the procedure, but that's stopped.  I have
a dull ache in my rectum which I think has something to do with the
prostate, but I'm not sure.  I experienced it once in a while well
before the PVP, but I feel it all the time since the procedure. It
really nags me when I'm trying to go to sleep.  I mentioned it to the
doc a few weeks before the surgery, but, after a quick digital probe,
he said it must be something else. Still, I'm not too sure he's right.

I don't know if this is worth anybody's attention, but I'll welcome
any comments.  I've read other threads in this group and feel that
there are a lot of savvy and caring guys that hang out here.

I'll post again after I see the urologist.

Your output sounds a lot like mine except that I never get 12 oz any more
(355 mL). In my heyday, before bph, I could hit 600 mL. After TUMT, I would
get 400, but since then, my ability to put out camp fires has greatly
diminsished.

Terry,
70 year old Geezer here and PVP +18 with similar results.  Still waiting for
the miracle.
Seems I never can fully empty bladder.  Still waking every 1.5 hrs.  Feeling
I need to urinate most of time.
Flow not up to your number.  Let's hope it improves with time.
Johnny
Let me know what your Uro says.

How large was your prostate and who did your PVP surgery?

Thank you guys for responding to my posting. I saw my urologist today
and was pleased at the lengthly and frank discussion we had.  In
brief, he assured me that my responses to the PVP so far are about
what should be expected.  He has done the TURP for many years and has
just recently started with PVP.  He thinks that PVP will indeed
surpass TURP as the "gold standard", but will probably not be the
instant cure that some are claiming. He told me that I should see
gradual improvement over the next two months until our next
appointment in December. He also reminded me that I was a little long
in the tooth and should therefore not expect to revisit my pissing
feats of yesteryear. He noted that my reactions are similar to those
of his other PVP patients (one of which is another TUNA graduate.)
I hope this is as encouraging to you as is was to me. I was pretty
discouraged this morning, but feel a lot better now.
In reply to Dan, my prostate is at 25 grams and A nice guy named David
Brickel is my urologist. He practices in Bad Axe, Michigan, where I
live.
Good luck to all.  Thanks again,

Terry

I don't think that I ever recorded prostate Size.
My Uro in Lancaster Ca was Dr Houston
One of the few in Southern Cal.
Laser is brought up from LA area along with a Tech.
I was probably number 17 on his PVP kotch.
Think I read the expert URO in Santa Barbara (Luabe?) is only up to about
50.
So maybe we are on a technique learning curve.

Hi

I went to Dr Laub in  Santa Barbara, was about Nr 15 and  am very happy. I
would think that a surgeon is fully trained when he is let lose on the first
patient. I would also hope that he does his best.
Low flow can be due to other causes than BPH constriction. The bladder can
harden and lose volume due to prolonged BPH. My experience is that the
bladder improves with time. I hope this is also the case with you gentlemen.

Apparently those with previous experience of doing BPH ops with lasers/turp
have no problem with PVP as the techniques are very similar. Basically,
these involve manipulating a probe at the end of a wire by watching the
image on a monitor. Apparently they use a similar technique for drilling
multiple oil wells from a single platform out at sea -- but on a slightly
different scale, of course!<VBG>

What was your output before PVP? I do 6-7 oz. at best. Jim W.

Jim:

Before PVP I was urinating 10-12 times in waking hours and 4-5 at
night.  I was generating 4-6 ounces each time.  Some of this is due to
the "precautionary pissing" I've gotten in the habit of doing before
leaving the house for even a simple errand.  As somebody noted before,
anxiety plays a big role in these matters.  By the way, in the last
two days I've been the proud creator of a couple of leaks in the 10-12
ounce range.  Knock on wood!

Peter, I agree that the likelihood of prostatitis has been on my mind
and my uro has given me some cipro and has sent a urine sample to the
lab to test for infection.  He felt my prostate and asked if the
discomfort I felt from his touch was sililar to what I felt in my
rectum .  I had to admit that it not.
He said that a large number of his patients over the years have
complained about the same thing, but that it almost always turned out
that the problem is due to earlier back injury or damage to the nerves
leading to the bladder area.
We'll see.

Best of luck to all on this forum

Terry

That's (4-6oz) where I am now and I hope I can achieve your results (12oz)
after my PVP.  Thanks for the providing all this great info for us.  Jim W.

No retro!  It may just be wishful thinking, but I seem to be a bit
more tumid (?)too.  Anybody have any experience like this?
