I will be in the hospital for 2 days after the TURP and probably have the
catheter for those days. Is usual to go home with the catheter still in or
is it removed on discharge from the hospital?

Usually it's removed before discharge provided you can urinate by
yourself.

Can't speak from person experience since I had PVP. But an elderly
friend of mine had TURP and had extensive bleeding and clotting problems
after his procedure. His foley catheter was in place about 3 weeks.
Sounds like you need to ask you URO about your situation. Everybody is
different.

I had my TURP in the uro's operating suite, and went home right afterward
with the catheter in place. I had it removed three days later (which is
kind of the standard for TURPs). The catheter was a killer, and I couldn't
stand it. I have had both TUIP (no catheter) and TURP, both as ambulatory
procedures. I think you would have been better off with a PVP. Good
luck...Pete

I had TUMT a couple years ago, performed in the doctors office. I had
a catheter for five days after that. Then went back and they removed
it.
A year ago I had PVP. Again went home with a catheter. They had be
remove it myself the next morning. Not a difficult thing to do.
