Retro EJ - what does it feel like?

I'd like to know from people who have actually experienced retrograde
ejaculation as a result of surgery - what does it feel like? Is the
orgasm sensation very much reduced? Sex still worth the effort, in
terms of physical reward? Any other effects? (Don't care about the
fertility implications - already taken care of that :-).)

I don't have BPH but rather a constriction of the bladder neck that
causes BPH-like symptoms (I know this because I've had a cystoscopy).
It's a case of either swallow pills for the rest of my life (hopefully
many years - I'm in my 40s) or have a bladder neck incision. The latter
will definitely cause retro EJ, I understand.

TIA

I suspect it feels different for different men.  My father had a TURP back
in the 60's and told me it felt better then before, more intense.  I had it
for a while after my PVP.  It felt different but still pleasurable.  It
reminds me the way it felt when I was young and had a condom on that was too
tight and did not have a reservoir end.  I do know that most women are glad
that they no longer need to deal with the mess.  I have recovered from my
PVP and now shoot the normal way, both are good but different.

I was glad to get off the pills.  They caused me side effects that I grew to
accept and I thought that living in a low energy, fog was just part of aging
until I got off the pills and the fog lifted.

As a much older man (late sixties), I remind you that sex is not just about
the end of the journey but also about the joy you and your partner
experience on the way there.  A bladder that is always half filled with pee
it much more of a hindrance to good love making then a difference in
sensation at the moments of orgasm.

Good luck with what ever you decide.

I had TUMT 7/2/04 and PVP 2/23/05.  Supposedly the PVP was to be done as
"a bladder neck sparing procedure" as per the cystoscopy 3 weeks prior
to the PVP.  When the procedure was done, the URO made a "single
incision through the bladder neck at the 5 o'clock position, which
opened it up nicely."  Although he told me before the PVP that there was
a 20% chance of retro, I have had 100% retro ever since the PVP.  The
thing that I miss most (now at 100 weeks post PVP) is the pumping
sensation of ejaculation that I used to feel prior to the PVP.  Now that
the semen is ejaculated into the bladder, the pumping sensation is very
definitely diminished.  Sex is still worth the effort, but I have had to
get used to some new sensations. (I'm 62)  If you have further
questions, send them direct.

Ah, that's what I feared. The main physical sensation for me at orgasm
is the fluids being forced through the sphincter on the outlet of the
prostate (at least that's what subjectively seems to be happening).
It's not the only thing that makes the orgasm satisfying, of course,
but I would miss that.

I entirely agree with Dave's point about the major importance of the
'way there' as well as the end of the journey, but if you've been used
to ending up in Las Vegas and suddenly you're only getting to
Middletown ... well you might feel a bit like you're missing out.

I guess I should give the pills another try first. I tried Indoramin a
few years ago and it was just awful. Maybe there are better options,
now.

I have been on Uroxatrol and Flomax.  After a period of time on the
Uroxatrol, I experienced tiredness, grumpiness, depression (?),  and
some low back pain.  If the TUMT would have solved the problem, it would
have been the way to go with my bph, but it failed to clear half of the
prostatic urethra furtherist from the bladder.  Thus the PVP.  All in
all, rather than be on the pills, I am happy with the outcome even with
the retro.  I learned early that I did not want to be on the medications
indefinitely!  My understanding is that the risk of retro is directly
proportional to the amount of surgical intervention at the bladder neck.
