NHS waiting times

This question is directed at UK patients.

Can anyone tell me what the current waiting times are under the NHS
for a PVP? Idewally, I would like to know what the waiting times are
for an op by Gordon Muir, King's College.

I had a PVP about three years ago which was tremendous. I reported the
results here.

Unfortunately, things have steadily got worse so that my flow is now
very poor. I have a nasty feeling that I am being forced into a corner
because my local urologist is a TURP man. He says the PVP did not work
and I should have a TURP. If I want another PVP (he says), I should
consider going private. This after I have paid a stamp all my life!

Mr Muir has written to me recently to say that, due to his large number
of patients with prostate problems, he has been banned by Kings NHS
trust from taking any out of area NHS referrals  at the moment.
If you are lucky enough to live in the catchment area you would
probably have a first out-patients appointment in 3 months.

Derry, does Mike Degun not have any information on waiting times ? He should
be able at least to give you  names of other hospitals now carrying out the
procedure.
I referred myself to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle after reading a
report they had on the internet about PVP. They said that they would accept
me if they considered me to be a suitable case and if I got the Edinburgh
urologist to refer me. At that time as The Freeman were new to the game they
were being choosy on the patients they accepted but Mike said that they were
already "A sh.t hot team"
I think it helped that I was a volunteer who already knew a lot about the
procedure from this group as they wanted as much feedback from early
patients as possible. I was around patient No 38.

Thanks for the replies, which I read but can't retrieve because I am
using a new newsreader (Agent) which is still a mystery to me!

My flow was almost nil last night. Very scary. Please note that I had
a PVP at King's by Muir about three years ago, so whatever I need now
will be a repair job.

I get a nasty feeling I am being ignored! Yes, I have emailed Degun -
twice. Muir did not reply to my emails over three months. If Muir (and
Laserscope) are as busy as I am told, that accounts for it. It is not
at all difficult to arrange for people to be less busy!

Possibly they do not know I am an author, journalist, AND a publisher!

"Dog Bites Man" is not news. "Man Bites Dog" is a headliner.

I'll do some phoning tomorrow.
