I am scheduled for a PVP on 11/07.  I am rather apprehensive at this point
in time because I am not sure all my questions have been answered or, even,
what questions to ask and have answered.

I have been taking two Flomax per day for about two years, the last 8 months
with Saw Palmetto.  I usually get up only once per night while on the meds &
Palmetto.  I have no great urgency throughout the day but when I do go,
stream and quantity are low.  My PSA readings have been just above 1.

What prompted the need for surgery is a stone in the bladder.  That was
discovered while looking for the source of blood in the urine after
strenuous (for me, I'm 58 years) running.  The stone was such that the
surgeon (one of two in RI that can do the PVP) could remove it (after
chopping it up, from his description) through the urethra.  He suggested a
twofer and do the PVP while in there.

The doctor is Dr. Zabbo, an associate of Dr. Stein.  Comparing the two, I
would say Dr. Zabbo has less "bedside manner" and this is perhaps part of
the source of my apprehension.  He feels I may spend an overnight, only
because he is not sure what my progress will be after the two procedures.
The procedure is scheduled for 8AM on that Friday.

So, again, I am asking the group what pre-operative questions I should ask
and have answered that could alleviate this apprehension. TIA.

Paul,

I had a PVP done 10/20 -- results were outstanding -- no pain . no blood
, burning only during the first day -- it was a great success. Suggest
you ask your doctor for the name[s] and telephone number of one of his
previous patients. Call them and they will tell you many things the
doctor did not feel important enough to discuss.

I did this and it turned out to be one of the smartest things I did.

With a good uro this procedure is easy and effective.

Regards,
John Kutina
