I think it would be interesting to this group to know what happens to
PSA readings after PVP?  I'm wondering if it should go down because of
a reduction in prostate volume and blockage, or rise, in my case,
because I've stopped taking Proscar?  Can anyone share their
experience?

Barry,

It should go down because:

a) there is less glandular prostate tissue to generate PSA
b) there is usually less inflamation in the remaining tissue to generate
PSA.

In my case, my PSA right before PVP was 3.0 and one year after PVP it was
1.6

Mine went down from 4.0
to 2.33.

During my PVP I mentioned to the uro that my PSA had been 2.1 for the
last 4 years, and he said "right now it'll be about 400!"

By the way, yesterday, PVP +16 days, I went into retention due to big
blood clots. I think they're gone after 4 self-cath. If I find out
more about this I'll post an account. It wasn't fun.

Five months after PVP, my PSA is unchanged.  However, as I stated
earlier, I've stopped taking Proscar.  Proscar can reduce PSA by as
much as 50%.

I doubt that my PSA will go down, because it was 0.3 before the PVP
