My dad had a surgery for BPH 1.5 months back. His condition seemed to
improve a lot after surgery. But for last 10 days, he started problems
in passing urine. Today he was not able to pass urine for 5-6 hrs and
had to be rushed to hospital.

Please let me know if all this is normal. Do people have these
complications after Surgery. And if yes, for how long?

Sweta.

What kind?  TURP?  What hospital?
Sweta - 28 Dec 2006 06:36 GMT
Yes, it was TURP and the opertaion was done in India. Initially my dad
was happy with the surgery. But after a month his urine flow was
reduced and yesterday he was put on catheter. I just hope its a normal
post surgery situation and he'll get better soon.

Thanks,
Sweta.

I am not an expert.  I am guessing that it is scar tissue.  In any case
he is obviously in contact with the doctor who I suppose will have to
take a look inside.

Thanks for all those suggestions.

The doctor is also saying that its a common problem post surgery. Would
like those of you who have undergone surgery, share your experiences
after surgery. Also, if any suggestion on lifestyle changes. What are
the Do's and Don'ts for avoiding these complication in future.

Thanks & Regards,
Sweta.

Perhaps if possible find a doctor that does PVP.  I think that Doctor
Sancha who  posts here was in India teaching PVP.

Sorry to hear your problems Hugh.  Eight months since PVP here.  Flow is
great but volume has disappointed me.  Some I think is that I don't
sleep as sound anymore (a wee bit older than you!!).  I wake for other
reasons and realize that I need to go.  Perhaps only two or three ounces
(100 CC).  During the day when otherwise occupied I have waited until I
had 10 ounces (300 CC).  I tried Flomax way back.  It made me dizzy.
REALLY DIZZY.  Damn near fell down.
