Does anyone know the comparable costs between a TURP and PVP?
I am anticipating problems in getting the NHS to pay for a repeat PVP
when my local urologist wants to do a TURP.
Has anyone gone down this road? I really cannot afford to go private
and don't consider it is my fault that I need a second op.

The NHS accountants in their wisdom will say that a TURP is cheaper. They
will not factor in the difference between day surgery and several days in
hospital nor your time off work after a TURP.

I think I've seen prices for PVP at around £4,500 privately but
haven't any idea about a TURP -- would anyone want one privately??

That is very interesting. That would seem to indicate that there is
not much difference in the cost to the hospital, either. Bang goes the
argument that a TURP is cheaper. Or does it? I suppose they would
argue that an operation done "in house" is cheaper to the hospital
than contracting out? Still, it is a point to make. Thanks for the
information.
