I'm new to this newsgroup so I apologise if my question has been asked ad
nauseum.  I have BHP, but the symptoms are not very severe. The worst is
always having the feeling I want to pee.  This feeling does not originate in
the bladder, but in the urethra.  There is a sensation that something,
urine, that is irritating the urethra.  I don't mean the pain of a urinary
tract infection, more of an itch.

Is this common?

Thanks

John

Yes, that is very common.  I had the same feelings as well.  Mine was really
more at night and not during the day.  It has all but gone away now after
changing diet and a lot of herbal stuff.  Not sure what fixed it, but it was
a very slow proccess.  Still get up once at night, and the stream isn't as
good at night, but I feel I empty good now.

I think you mean BPH, whatever LOL.
My case is different. I had a TURP back in June 2006 post HDR
Brachytherapy.
Prior to the TURP I had semi-blockage, now I have random Incontinence
coupled with extreme urethral pain if I haven't cleared my bowels.
Between motions it's bearable. The Uro gave me some Oxybutynin Tabs to
calm the Incontinence, but they also step up the Constipation, causing
the whole cycle to recur until I clear the chute again with Laxatives.

I hope this doesn't happen to you!

It may be obvious to those who know their anatomy, but just what is the
connection between full bowels and urinary difficulties? Just what is
the anatomy?

Further, there seems a connection between blood pressure and urinary
urgency. This is a little more difficult tof me to understand. When I
take my bo upon arising, the inflating cuff causes immediate urinary
urgency. What's the connection? Also bp's taken first thing in the am
can be very high.

I don't know what the connection is, but my guess is this.  When you get a
DRE and they put pressure on the prostate, it causes urinary urgency
feelings.  I think if the prostate is already hyper sensitive, gas or even
the need for a bowel movement can cause the same urgency feelings.  I can
really see where constipation could cause pressure being placed on the
prostate.  I have noticed these same symptoms is why I made a change in
diet.

My BP is also very high in the morning but very low by night. I do take BP
meds. It is always recommended that you should not have a full bladder when
you take your BP.  but at least the cuff does not have that effect on me.
Derek.

My understanding is that this is common.
It occurs because the process of the body changing from a sleeping
state to a waking state is stressful.
Hence the hgh bp.
Hence also the reason why heart attacks and strokes tend to occur at
that time of day !

Yes,  hi bp in the am is called, technically, "morning surge," and is
quite dangerous. I am being successfully treated for this with 120 mg
dilttazem at bedtime, which brings it down in the morning. But separate
from that is this strange phenomenon: blood pressure cuff causes
immediate urinary urgency. Why?
