How does sex and.or masturbation affect the enlarged prostate?
Some time ago, a Dr advised me that a regular release was necessary for
a healthy prostate.
We've all heard the old maxim"Use it or loose it"
but wonder if it's especially important and necessary for the enlarged
prostate.

I am asking the same question. I am 60, have an enlarged prostate, high
PSA but had a biopsy that was negative. I am finding my sexual desire to
be as high as it has ever been. I am divorced and am not seeing anyone.
Is too much masturbation good or bad for my situation? By too much I
mean about every other day.

Too much of anything is bad. I figure you'll know when you've done too
much when something is sore or rubbed raw. I haven't heard that sex
every day is bad for you; I don't know why masturbation would be any
different.

I guess my question is more toward will too much ejaculation due damage
to an enlarged prostate? If there is cancer present could it increase
the speed at which it spreads?

=====> hi rob - the simple answer to all of this is...... no.
ejaculation is nothing more than a muscle involved process. that would
be like asking if doing too many rep rates at an exercise gym will
damage your arm, leg or back.
the prostate is enlarged due to it growing, not due to any sexual
activity.
as to the cancer side of things. doesn't make any difference at all.
so enjoy yourself.
the cancer spreads by attacking one cell after another and has nothing
to do with the sexual side of it. they try to say that frequent
ejaculations will decrease your chances of prostate cancer. if that
was the case, most males wouldn't have a problem, would they? :))
one person i know didn't masturbate hardly at all and when he had his
prostate surgery, was so full of semen when they cut the tubes, it just
ran out all over the place. the surgeon told him later that he was full
up and why didn't he empty everything before he got to surgery.
also - some advice on your high psa reading. have a 'free psa' test
done. this blood test measures the amount of free psa that is available
inside your body. as you develop prostate cancer, the normal number
is around 28 and will drop lower as the prostate cancer develops. so,
you could have a high psa number and a high free number and know that
you don't have to worry about prostate cancer knocking at your door and
get some peace of mind.
hope this helps.

knowledge is power - growing old is mandatory - growing wise is optional
"Many more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Growing old is
invariably fatal. Prostate cancer is only sometimes so."

And too much exercise certainly WILL do that.
I don't know the answer to the OP's question, but I have heard
(unconfirmed) that a lot of masturbation will stimulate growth of the
prostate.

It will not. (confirmed)

I'm now in my 70's and have suffered from BPH since I was 40. At that
time, I read a book entitled "Your Prostate" by a retired urologist
named Monroe Greene who had practiced for almost 60 years.
In the book, he devoted an entire chapter to this subject, entitled
"Overuse and Underuse of the Prostate."
In essence, what he said on this topic is that excess in either
direction is not good for any male, regardless of whether he has BPH.
He cites priests who are strictly celibate and as a consequence have a
much higher incidence of prostate problems. At the same time he
cautions against excess or overuse of the prostate, citing excessive
masturbation.
Most males seem to have a rythm or schedule that determines when it's
necessary to empty. In my thirties, it was every other day. Now, in
my 70's, it's a few times per month.
Dr. Green's advice has served me well. It's the only book on this
subject I've seen that deals specifically with this question.
P.S. I searched the largest antiquariat database on the Internet and
could not find the book available anywhere.

How do you know this? Confirmed by whom?

That same study was also reported in the Journal of the American Medical
Association so there's been formal validation it's authenticity.
Twenty-one times a month is the target.

Interesting. I always wondered if those wicked little sperm bugs might
get desperate and dig into prostate cells and damage their dna.
Dr. Dean Edel does medical talk on the radio here in San Francisco. One
day when commenting on massage of the prostate as a treatment he
muttered "I wonder why not do it the old way" but he quickly changed
the subject before the FCC caught him.
