Are you having a local or general anaesthetic ? My BP is normally high and
my GP once told me that they would not operate if it was greater than 160/90
however an anaesthetist told me that BP goes down when you are under. Prior
to my PVP the anaesthetist was concerned about it and the ECG reading. He
then asked for an echo cardiogram before he was willing to proceed as he
said that he did not want me to die on him during elective surgery :-) I
later asked him if there had been any problem during the procedure and he
said only that my heartbeat had gone very low and he had needed to give me
something to speed it up. My heartbeat is normally under 50 bpm, whether
that is normal for me or induced by verapamil for my BP I do not know.

Doctors in the UK regard 130 systolic as normal. The 90 diastolic is at the
level they consider treatment. Strangely enough we met a woman the other
week who travels the country checking the BP of workers on building sites.
She had referred three to their doctors that morning for being over 90
diastolic. She regards the diastolic figure as the most important. I have
had GPs who take differing views as to which is the important one.
Good luck with your PVP.
Derek.

High diastolic blood pressure (over 90 mmHg) increases the risk of
hemorrhagic stroke if the serum cholesterol is very _low_ at the same time.
