Have had BPH for 10 yrs, since about age 44. PSA has always been
between 1 and 1.9. Started on flomax 6 months ago. PSA last week was
5.4. Waiting to talk to uro.

How common is slightly raised PSA when one has BPH? Wondering if he
will do a biopsy. Hx of protate ca maternal uncle.

Big prostate tends to mean high PSA. My PSA as my prostate grew from 35 gr
to 72 gr went from 5.2 to as high as 9.0
over ten years. In the last five years it varied between 7.5 and 9.0. Six
months post PVP it was 5.1

Prior to having a TURP in 98, my PSA went from 4, which is the lowest mine
has ever been, to 17 over a period of about 10-12 years.  Had two biopsies,
both negative, during this time.  After TURP PSA went back to 4 and has
remained at 4.  Uro said this was not unusual for someone with an enlarged
prostate.

Hope this is the case w/ me. Scheduled for biopsy this Monday. Having
a transrectal, and will take some Xanax prior, despite Dr. office
indicating they will use lidocaine injection into gland before biopsy.
