I have been using hytrin for ten years. Recently my U suggested Flomax
since he thought it was better. After one week, (per advertising) I
have not seen any difference and I now have a dental problem, gums and
difficulty sleeping, plus last night up 6 times! Has anyone else had
similar experience? I am ready to go back to H. thanks.

I can't take either, but I would immediately go back to the hytrin if it
works for you, no questions asked. You don't need to wait any longer than a
week (if your uro says you do he is in error). Best wishes...Pete
Alpha blockers each work a wee bit differently. That's what your doctor
was really trying to tell you. Not precise science. Youa re th guinea pig
and he's going to bounce you around from med to med because that's what the
studies suggest...those titled, "The efficacy of ..." Your doctor wants
you to experiment to find out which of the drugs offers the best results
with least side effects. You'll go back to the doctor again and
again...nice game for the doctor...stays in his comfort zone while you think
you are being helped. Lots of money to be made with this routine. But if
it were me, and knowing what I know now, screw the drugs!!! Read deeply
about their side effects. You want to be sure you are not onto one that
can cause more serious cardio problems upon exertion. Also, be sure you are
not taking one that causes longer term side effects that creep up on you
slowly, months or several years. Do they leave you enough energy today to
even do any exertion? Check out PVP, TURP etc., instead of taking drugs.
Lots of stuff in this newsgroup on PVP and might save yourself a lot of
misery tomorrow from drug side effects. See my post under Greenlight side
effects...I suffered while taking different Alpha blockers (urinary
relaxants), even came close to blacking out a number of times. They have
screwed me up for at least the past 1.5 years and who knows, I may have to
live with the side effects for a long time to come if not for the rest of my
life. I am really pissed off. I even had expensive cardio testing done
to try to find the cause. Many doctors. Many checkups. Finally...one
said, "Duh! You are taking Alpha blockers. What makes you think they can
be so precise as to only work on that one specific region and not affect
other parts of the circulatory..." So I had the operation. That last
doctor was absolutely correct. I wasted a lot of time, money, and agony
until the PVP. I want to spread the word now....I am really pissed off and
this is the only way I can think of getting my message out to folks like
you. Think about it. My recommendation...get off the meds as soon as you
can. Lots of other choices out there.

Have been on Flomax since February, with no side effects of any
significance. I got slight congestion at night the first week which
went away. Also, slight reduction of sensation at orgasm. As for the
respiratory effects stated below, pre and post Flomax I run 3 miles at
9.5 minutes a mile average, at age 54.

Hi guys,
Yesterday, I told my doc during my annual checkup, that (after several
years of Hytrin) I was now starting to 'dribble' during the nite. I wake in
the morning with a dried-up crusty area of urine, or a wet area in my
pajamas.
After telling him this, he said he would try changing me to FloMax (.4mg
once per day)for two months.
He told me to stop Hytrin (which I take each morning), and start Flomax
(which I take 30 minutes after supper). I'm sort of uneasy about *stopping*
Hytrin immediately, so I 'sneakily' cut my 5mg Hytrin in half this moring
and took it !
Tonite, I'll take the Flomax after supper too.
What say you ??
