I have been on Avodart since October 2005. A month or so ago, I was
diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My rheumatologist said that he had
experience with other men on prostate medicine who developed rheumatoid
arthritis. I did a little research and found that at the University Hospital
Regensburg in Germany scientists are looking at the role of reduced levels
of androgens and the development or rheumatoid arthritis. see
www.hon.ch.News/HSN/526027.html
The research article is published in the June 2005 issue of the Journal of
Arthritis and Rheumatology, which I haven't been able to get my hands on.
Any of you have any knowledge of the role of Avodart, or other prostate
medicines and arthritis?
Thanks,

Frank...I just checked the package insert for avodart and did not see any
adverse reactions pertaining to arthritis (please check it yourself, in case
I missed something)...Pete

you're right, there are no warnings about arthritis in the Advodart
literature. My point is that I believe this is fairly new research, June
2005 is the publication date. Since I am not a scientist, I was wondering if
anyone was more familar with this research. I have decided to stop the
Advodart because the possibility that I may have developed rheumatoid
arthritis as a consequence of Advodart is not a good enough trade off for
me. I have sent the research literature to my uro, with a cover letter
explaining the research. I told him I stopped the Advodart and asked for his
opinion. Let's see.

Let us know what he says, or if he gets mad at you for doing your own
research :-) ...Pete
