Flomax Pain

Hello Group: Addition to my previous posting of (3-29-06). Last month I
had a very large bladder stone removed. The urologist used a cystoscope
with some type of laser to blast it apart. I was told that the stone
formed, because the median lobe of my prostate was enlarged, causing
residual urine to be crystallized in my bladder. The scope photos I saw
showed "trabeculation" of the bladder wall, which means it's not
functioning properly.

They did a post void urination ultra-sound in the office two days after
the cystoscopy procedure, and it showed very little urine remaining. I
opted for a flomax prescription anyway, just to be on the safe side.
Well to make a long story short, I have had mild bladder pain on and
off since. I was wondering if  Flomax can over relax the bladder neck
and prostate gland too much, causing discomfort. I did take it two and
a half years ago, because of kidney stones, and had almost the same
feeling in my lower abdomen. I'm sure the actual cystoscopy blasting
procedure caused some trauma to my insides, but you'd think I would
have completely healed by now. Of course having this stone rolling
around in me for years, and being 61 doesn't help the situation much
either.

Has anyone in the group had any bladder pain they think is caused by
Flomax? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Corky

As my uro says, meds can cause different side effects in different
people. In other words, if you are having some symptoms, whatever they
are, they might be caused by some drug you are taking. In still other
words, they don't know.

I've been on Flomax for over a year and never had the symptoms you
describe. But I do have a runny nose, cough, and mild muscle
/connective tissue discomfort at times.

For about a year I was on two pills a day. A couple months ago I
decided to try just one pill, as my condition seemed to be under
control. I figured one pill should give milder side effects. Instead
the runny nose and cough got noticeably worse. Can't figure that one
out!

If your uro or pharmacist can't answer your question, then it's up to
you to find out, for instance by discontinuing the Flomax and see what
happens.
