I just got back from the Urologist this am and found out I cant get the
procedure done since its larger than 100 grams. Mine was 127 grams. He
suggested going on avodart for 4 months to try to shrink it to 100g and
then mabe do the procedure. Anyone have that same experience....Cam

There has been oodles written on that in this ng (including all kinds of
comments from our good doctor in the group - Dr. Sancha). Do some
searching.

Cam,
I am 57 years old. My prostate was 108g measured by TRUS a year ago.
My urologist is Dr. Reiter at UCLA. He recommended the same course of
treatment - Avodart to shrink the prostate. In my case, this was
successful. I hated the side effects but it was worth it to be able to
avoid open prostatectomy. Prior to my PVP my prostate had shrunk to
73g (TRUS). Also, I did not have a medial lobe protruding into the
bladder neck. My surgery was uneventful, but I did need a foley
catheter for a day. It was removed the following day and my bleeding
quickly stopped. Within 3 weeks I had passed several small and one
large clot and have not bled since. I do have retrograde ejaculation.
I have a 5 month follow up in early May and I know that the results
will be nearly everything that the Greenlight web site promises - great
flow and compete voiding. I am extremely happy with the results,
especially since I was actually expecting a 3~6 month period to full
recovery. I hope this gives you some hope.
