This board looks really old, but in case anyone is monitoring..............
Is an epidural and a spinal the same thing? I am going to have the PVP and
am a little afraid of general. I am trying to explore my options. Thanks

I think a spinal and an epidural are the same thing, as opposed to
general anesthesia. I had a spinal for my PVP, and had no discomfort.
I was in recovery for quite a while, waiting for feeling to return to
my feet, probably longer than for general anesthesia, but I felt no
grogginess, no hangover. I think I'd do that again.

Sorry about the double post. I'm not sure what happened there

I also had a spinal. Recovering from that was the hardest part of the
whole thing!! Took me awhile till I could walk, then I snoozed the
better part of the afternoon.
So I watched on the monitor while the guy did it.

I had severe chills and cold shakes and trembling after the spinal (and yes
spinal and epidural are the same). Never again for me - I'll take the
general anesthesia any day...Pete

I had the general anaesthesia, put under at 1.50 and told that I was awake
and speaking to the uro at 3.00. But the first thing I remember is being in
the recovery room at 3.50 and complaining that I felt cold. The nurse then
put a heated sheet over me. Just after 5.00 I was eating my dinner.
Derek.

Aren't those heated sheets great?

Those heated sheets were grear!!
Jefe, My anesthetist asked me either general or spinal do I prefer before
the surgery. My uro heard that and told her to give me the general because I
have a big prostate, 100g, w/median lobe. Everythig, the surgery and results,
went well. Don't be afraid. PVP is the best way to treat BPH. Wish you the
best.

How do they actually heat them? I saw the nurse go over to a 'glass fronted
cupboard' to get them

Must be an incubator type cupboard :-)

I was a little woozy at the time, but I thought it seemed like mine was
inflated with hot air, like if delated just before the nurse took it
off. Maybe the hot air keeps the warmth more evenly distributed.
