So, I've started taking Flomax about two weeks ago and it works for
me, gets me through a night without the need to pee.
Been taking it half hour after a  light breakfast.
The only side effect that I have experienced is constipation.
Any thoughts about if it's better to take it after breakfast, lunch or
dinner???

I take mine when I go to bed. That is what my doctor told me to do to avoid
the side effects of dizziness. Have not had the problem with constipation but
if you research on this group you will find folks with many different side
effects from Flomax.

Drinking more water should stop the constipation.

Hi JJ,

Check out this recent thread on Flomax dosage.

One of the posters is myself.  I talk about how I take a smaller dose
of Flomax to reduce side effects.  It still works for me, though I have
to take it more often now than when I wrote that post.  Recently I've
been taking one third of a dose about every two days.

Here is the "official" suggestion:
The recommended dose of FLOMAX is one 0.4 mg capsule, taken once daily,
taken 30 minutes after the same meal each day. In clinical trials, FLOMAX
frequently began to improve urine flow in 4 hours to 8 hours and overall
improvement in symptom relief in as early as 4 days.

For almost a year I took Flomax after breakfast because that is the
least complicated time of day for me. But I thought maybe my symptoms
were getting a bit worse. Those symptoms are occasionally very slow
flow at night. I wanted to see if I could get more bang out of the
drug, so switched to taking it after supper. I figured that would
boost the concentration in my body at night when I needed it most. And
it seems to have worked. Since the switch I have had less trouble at
night.

There were some other effects apparently as a result of making this
switch. One is that I pass less total volume of urine at night than
before. That one I don't understand, because I now take my pills with
a tall glass of water in the evening, and I expected it would increase
nightly volumes a bit. Another effect is that I now fairly often have
very firm stool... pretty well never had that before. Before, I tended
to drink quite a bit of water in the morning, peeing quite a bit too.
Now that doesn't happen.

So it seems that Flomax may have an effect on how the body handles
fluid.
