I have heard that aspirin raises PSA, saw palmetto lowers it, and sex
raises it. To get an accurate reading, for how many days before PSA
should one abstain from each of the above?

Sometime back I had access to a Mayo Clinic book on Prostate Health
(written 2000).  On Pages 14-15, they list these causes of elevated PSA:
1. Non cancerous bph
2. Prostatitis
3. Cancer of Prostate
4. Urinary tract infection
5. Ejaculation could cause a 40% increase in PSA values; they advised
abstaining 48 hrs before PSA test
6. Recent prostate procedures including: biopsy; TURP; TUIP; prostate
massage; TUMT; Laser therapy of prostate; balloon dilation of the prostate.

I have seen other sources advising stopping saw palmetto for 5 days
before PSA;  I haven't read anything about ASA or ibuprofen.

My reading dropped from 3.9 to 2.8 by abstaining 3 days. Not hard to do with
3 adult kids at home.:) The 3.9 was taken 60 mins after so appears to be
correct that sex affects readings
