I left Inverness at 8am on Monday 6th in plenty of time for my PVP
scheduled at King's College Hospital at 7.30am on Wednesday 8th October.

When I arrived at KCH I was advised that there had been a flood (!) and the
operation was cancelled. It has been re-scheduled for 10th December. They
had tried to contact me (a message on my mobile) but by then I was on my
way anyway.

It took me about an hour to realize I had more to do at home than in London
so I am back home again (10.30pm--7th) after a 1,000 mile abortive round
trip. Can you beat that?

What a let down
Trust the NHS to be so darn late in telling anyone

Well, living in the Highlands does get one used to these sort of disasters!
As I said to the nurse at admissions, "Did you do it deliberately?". Look
of shock, "Certainly not!". My reply, "Then you can't be held to blame, can
you? These things happen". I think she was a bit surprised I took it so
well but one can only look at the funny side. Anyway, I quite enjoyed the
trip!<G> Much nicer by rail if you are interested in the countryside. I had
my nose pressed against the window most of the way (in both directions)!

I feel for you. You are taking it much better than
I would. I know that's my problem...I am always
too impatient. But having your surgery delayed
for two months would be tough. No doubt, you
were a gentleman about it, but boy, that would
be rough. I guess the bright side is you will be
done and feeling good by Christmas and after
the long wait they have forced upon you, maybe
two more months will not be that bad.

Only here in the UK could it happen:-) Anywhere else they would make an
alternative arrangement. Hell its not even major surgery they must have a
corner in the hospital they could do it in... the mortuary, the mens
toilets, the kitchens.
Sorry forgot, they don't cook in our hospitals now , its all 'airline food'
cooked in faraway places.
Derek.

Thank God they didn't offer me the mortuary!  I might have
misunderstood!<G> Anyway, I have the training CD and if push comes to
shove, I will hire the machine and go for DIY....

Instead of all the house and garden make over TV programmes we need a health
make over one. Or perhaps a symptoms show with operations as prizes for the
weakest bladder or biggest prostate.

Sorry to hear that Derry, you were realy looking forward to the op as well,
look on the new date for the op as a Christmas present!

Not too good an abortive trip of that length but pleased you can take it in
your stride, I have just returned from hols, but no news about my referral
(NHS) yet.

Only news I have is that I am covered in bloody mosquito bites, next year I
think it is going to be Bognor Regis or Skegness, but don't tell the wife!!

That sort of thing is not that unusual this far north. Like the "highly
recommended" garage that had my truck for six weeks, then returned it with
no oil in the gearbox! Hitch hiking is the only alternative transport up
here when that happens.

The way global warming is going, you'll probably get mosquitoes there too.

Damned annoying about your referral. Keep after them and eventually they
will give in, if only to get rid of you!<G>
