Is is common practice for a uro to prescribe antibiotics for a normal,
otherwise healthy (other then BPH) male prior to cystoscopy?

I had a normal cystoscopy 2/2/05. Anesthetic gel was inserted into the
urethra and allowed to work 15 minutes before the flexible cystoscopy.
No antibiotics or other meds were prescribed prior or post the
procedure. Have you had any heart problems that would demand
antibiotics prior to any invasive procedure? For example, some persons
who have had heart value replacements take antibiotics as a precaution
when having a dental exam or cleaning to prevent endocarditis.

Like you, I'm healthy except for BPH. I've had 4 cystoscopys done over the
years by 3 different URO's and each time, when it was over, I was given an
antibiotic pill. I believe it is to minimize the possibility of a bladder
infection.
