Would like to hear the experiences, good and bad, from those who use or used
AVODART. Thanks.
My understanding is that it could take several months to be effective.

Try taking it for as much as 12 months to 18 months in some cases and then
you are likely on it forever. For that reason urinary channel relaxants
are combined..so you can pee while waiting for the DHT inhibitors to kick
in. Some men don't respond to DHT inhibitors. All depends on the cause
of your BPH. A lot don't like the side effects of DHT inhibitors. Why
is your doctor recommending you take a DHT inhibitor? A guy named "
Spread" on this newsgroup--search below--often recommended having blood
tests to be sure your cause is from high DHTs...makes sense to me!
"Spread" continually cautioned this newsgroup about taking meds before
knowing both your real true need and the side effects. I liked his
philosophy. I'm also wondering why the maker of that one DHT inhibitor has
been advertising on TV? Some guy posted something on this newsgroup about
DHT's eventual effects on memory or Altzheimer's or something like that.
Maybe one of the other posters can point out that article again? I would
like to have a copy of it. Anyways, "Spread" said: "...when it comes to
meds, there is not free ride.." My very best wishes to you.

I am only trying to find information and experiences, I have not taken it
nor has it been prescibed.
It is best to be well informed beforehand. Thanks.

Paul,
I took Avodart for a few months. The side effects (total loss of
libido, poor erections, puny brownish ejaculate, lethargy, brain farts)
were so bad I quit taking it before the six months or so it's supposed
to take for results. In the three months I took it there was no
symptom relief, but if there had been I still would have quit it. It's
just not worth it, at least for me. Bad as Hytrin and Flomax are,
Avodart is worse, side effect-wise. I am trying to get scheduled for a
PVP. I have an appointment with a uro 100 miles away, since I can't
find one here in Greenville SC who does PVP.
