I would like to hear experiences both good and bad about Flomax.
Saw Palmetto does not seem to help, Flomax was suggested.  Thanks.

Saw Palmetto takes a while to kick in but at least it does not have side
effects.
Derek.

Take a look at the following site:

http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=20579&name=FLOMAX

There are 24 pages of patient ratings of Flomax, from very satisfied
customers to dissatisfied customers. Worth your time...

That's a good site.  No help after taking Saw Palmetto for months.  With
Flowmax  I had the muscle aches and dizziness.  Decided it was better to get
the problem treated properly.  After arriving at this site I conclude that
to be PVP.

I use Flomax occasionally, in small doses.  I open a capsule, pour the
ingredients onto a piece of paper, divide it into thirds, and put each
of those small quantities into a new capsule.  (You can buy empty
capsules.)  This does the trick for me and minimizes the side effects.

Where can you buy empty capsules?

Hi DP,

I got my empty capsules at my neighborhood pharmacy.  The product I
have is made by Lilly, and the label says "Empty Gelatin Capsules."
(As I recall, they're usually a special order, but this pharmacy had
them in stock because someone ordered them and never picked them up.)

I took Saw Palmetto for some years but apparently it did not help,
because after some time of little change, my problems got decidely
worse. Of course for quite a while I was imagining that it was
helping. That's called the placebo effect.

Then I went on Flomax (0.4 mg) and IT didn't seem to work. After a
month or two went off it... problems got worse... and then went back
to Flomax, but this time a double dose (0.8 mg). That helped quite a
bit. I'm still on it.

Around the time I began the double dose, I noticed some old
muscle/tendon type of injuries started to ache again. My whole body
ached a bit when I stressed it, like when jogging. So I stopped
jogging. No problems when relaxing, though. Not sure the aches were
due to the Flomax, but maybe it was. Now, about a year later, the
aches are gradually improving. I'm jogging again. All in all, the
Flomax was worth it.

Agree as well, I have been  on it (0.4Mg) past 5 months only side effect is
partial retro. If I miss a days tab tho I start to get a slight urgency
feeling. i am sure that after 2 days missed I would have probl;ems. cannot
get a PVP as here in Australia minimal uros use it and none within 2000km of
here.

So hoping flomax keeps this in bay for several years till our uros accept
PVPs

Ever try Saw Palmmetto several times but no help.  Took Flomax 0.4mg for
3.7 years along with Proscar 1.7 years, before that I took cardular for 3
years.  At the end, can not missed it for one day, also with side effect of
partial retro.  I ever had 3 biopsies, 4 cystoscopes and one fail TUMT in
past 7 years.  Fortunately, I found this NG and followed up many pioneers'
posts for half year and then decided to have pvp with Dr. Te in NY last
August.  Because my size was 100mg with median lobe, I stayed in hospital
overnight.  My experience is "no pain but gain (big flow)".  I have no any
BPH symptom but retro and low libido now vs. many of them prior to pvp.  I
think normal life is more important than worries about retro.
One more thing to share.  My 80-year-old 80-gm-size father-in-law had
similar BPH problem for years too.  After my story, he had PVP last December
oversea at the cost of around $5,000.  He join the happy camp as well now.
So please do your own search in this NG for posts posted in past 4 years.
You will get a lot of valuable information about BPH and its treatments.
