Diabetic reporting 4 wk update on second PVP

Well, I had my second PVP in less than 10 mos. a few weeks ago. I thought my
second one was an immediate success because my flow on day two was the
strongest it had been since I was a teenager. Unsimilar to my first PVP, I
saw no blood at all until the third week and now I have bled constantly for
almost two weeks. Dr. Lin thinks it is temporary and will go away, however,
my urine flow has decreased drastically just like it did on my first PVP and
now I can only get a good stream if I take Flomax. In reviewing Dr. Lin's
website at his frequently asked questions, one of them says this procedure
may not work well with diabetics with a neurogenic bladder. I am a diabetic
and was wondering if other diabetics had this or a similar problem?

Also, does anyone know what kind of tests you do to determine if you have
this neurogenic bladder?

Take a look at the following website....

Lots of good information.

Thank you Chockman. After reading this article, I don't think this is my
problem. It deals mostly with urinary incontinence and I do not have this
problem. As I said, my stream is fine while taking Flomax but if I quit, the
stream quickly diminishes. I have had two PVP's to try to correct this and I
am at my wits end. Thanks.

Buford,
I just spoke to a new urologist Friday, who wants me to have a
urodynamics test (whatever that is) to see if my diabetes has damaged
my bladder, before deciding if I am suitable for  PVP.  He didn't
mention neurogenic bladder, but it sounds like it may be what he's
referring to.  I'm going to call Monday and schedule a urodynamics test
and cystoscopy, in hopes of being found to be a good candidate for PVP
Buford R - 15 Jan 2006 15:03 GMT
I would be very interested to know what you find out and what a urodynamics
tests is. As I said above urinary incontinence is not my problem but rather
retention. Thanks.

The urodynamics test has been described here many times do an advanced
Google search on this NG and you should find references or this reference.

Thanks for the info. I read the article. It sounds like a lot of fun.....
Think I will just continue the Flomax as long as it works.

By the way, I am not as good on the newsgroups as others. You mentioned doing
an advanced google search on this NG. I hate to be stupid but how do you do
that? Thanks.

Go too Google and select groups and then advanced search. A page comes up
and you can put in the name of the NG you want to search add a keyword, or
author. You also have the choice of selecting a date range. You can search
without putting in a NG name and just say PVP, urodynamics or any other word
you want. Urodynamics only brought up one thread from this NG
http://tinyurl.com/7e7ad
But the word on its own brought more.

Buford...I was waiting for your update and was sincerely hoping you would
improve.  I am sorry to hear about your condition and wish you the very
best.  Does Dr. Lin say your flow will get better (without the flomax), or
was he just talking about the bleeding going away.  Please keep us
informed...Pete

He wants me to continue to the Flomax for two weeks and see what happens and
if no improvement to call him. I will keep you informed but I sure am
disappointed and depressed again so far. I don't know what it is about my
body that this PVP procedure seems not to work. You would think two in 10 mos.
that I would get some result. What is strange is that my flow was extremely
strong on day two of the surgery but has gradually diminised. I have wondered
if it were some of the meds I was taking but none of the docs seem to think
so. I wonder if the Flomax has damaged by bladder because I have read that
long term use of Flomax will do that and I have been taking it 10 years or
more. Maybe I waited too long to have the PVP problems because I had the
urinary retention problem about 15-20 years. I would not think I have any
blockages from the uretha to the bladder after two PVPs.  I just don't know
and I am in search of answers. Thanks and I will keep you updated.
