Hello,
My Dad seems to be having some difficulty with his prostate. He is 83 years
young - very active, otherwise excellent health but tells me that for the
past few days he's had blood in his urine, quite a lot he says but no other
symptoms. (Rectal exam a few weeks ago showed  that it "may" be enlarged. He
says he spoke to his GP and he could give him a prescription for antibiotics
and that this would clear up the bleeding...
Any advice?
Has has a follow up appt. the end of this month. Can he (shud he) be
expected to go for so long with blood in his urine??

Its possible its a sign of Cancer or kidney probs etc
Your dad needs a proper urgent referral to a Urologist not a GP messing
about with Antibiotics

That's good advice. But before you panic, it could just as well be a broken
blood vessel. Happens all the time. Think of a nose bleed -- how many would
jump to the conclusion that that is a sure sign of cancer? So don't worry
until the experts tell you there is a problem!<G>

I had a rectal exam when I was in my 30's and almost immediately after had
blood in my urine followed by pain upon urination. I don't recall any reason
for the exam other than it was a thorough medical exam.

I am scheduled for a PVP in two weeks

There are many postings about the good aspects of PVP but has anyone had
or know of men who had some bad experiences with PVP?

I would appreciate your comments on this.

Thank you.

Yes, go to http://groups.google.com and click on "sci." then "sci.med."
then "sci.med.prostate" then this group name, do a search for PVP and
tick the "search only in sci.med.prostate.bph"

Plan on spending some time there, there's lots of posts.
