Please respond with details if you have bladder diverticuli and have had
problems that may have been related to taking Flomax.  Briefly, my situation
is that I had urinary retention problems. An ultrasound scan confirmed
urinary retention.  The urologist put me on Flomax.  The urinary retention
problem vanished within 10 days, but came back about a week after that.  At
the time when the urinary retention returned I began to have horrid pains in
my lower bowels, a feeling like things moving about in my scrotum and a need
to defaecate about 5 times  day instead of the usual once. At night I would
wake up with severe cramp pains in the rectum and find my lower abdomen
covered in sweat.  Often, I felt as if my lower abdomen had filled up with a
ballon of really hot blood. And so on...
My GP could find nothing in his drug literature that suggested a drug
induced problem. The urologist thought  it strange. My pharmasist did not
think a link with the Flomax was ever suggested. My GP tried two other
medications that worked via the same mechanism as Flomax and I had the same
problem.  Stopping these drugs resulted in all my symptoms (except urinary
retention) going away.
After one year on the Flomax I had a second ultrasound scan and two large
diverticuli were found on my bladder, with the result that I now need
surgery to remove them.
I can't help wondering if the Flomax was responsible, perhaps by relaxing
already weakened tissue in the bladder and allowing it to stretch and
ballon. I have no idea and would love to hear from others with similar
problems.  Thanks

Stevenjon21...  Sorry to hear of all your problems.  I did not experience
your side effects.  Mine were different side effects from both FLOMAX and
URATROL but mine were related to dizziness, blackouts, etc.  You may want to
do some of your own research on "Alpha Blockers", which may reveal a larger
number of pharmaceuticals under this category of drugs than just he 4
FDA-approved as urinary channel relaxants.   My reson for suggesting this is
that one of them may stipulate the side effect for something other than
FLOMAX and you may be able to draw some sort of relationship back to it.
Here's wishing you all the best.
