Hi, I'm emailing for my husband right now . He's had two laser
surgeries , the last one was two years ago .Neither of the surgeries
ever helped him at all , but my question is , have any of you ended up
with severe scar tissue from the surgeries ? My husband has a very
critical problem now from the surgeries . He has a severe blockage at
the bladder neck which his new urologist says is stricture from the
previous surgeries . The stricture is almost totally blocking the
bladder neck, and last week I had to rush him to ER, he couldn't
urinate at all , and almost passed out . The Er put a catheter in and
he's worn it almost a week . He goes to the urologist tomorrow morning
,and the prognosis doesn't look good , nor are his options . He would
like to talk with anyone else with this problem . At this point , we
don't know what is going to happen , or if he can even go on his own
.He regrets ever having the procedures done, and especially by the Dr
who did them, that was a nightmare in itself -that Dr got mean and lost
his temper with my husband the morning of the surgery, and all my
husband did was ask him if he could spare the bladder muscle ;the Dr
said "No, it can't be done, and anyone who says it can is a liar, and
if you don't believe me, you can walk out right now ! " Oh , how  I
wish we had !!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely ,
Leslie  C/O Terry .

Many of us (but not all) have had excellent results with PVP surgery (a
type of Laser).  Many posters to this list have experienced failed
procedures, some even told they would wear a cath for the rest of their
lives, and then finally came upon the right Dr and received help.  Good
luck tomorrow, but if this new uro doesn't seem to be the right one for
you, post again with your city and maybe someone will have a good
recommendation for you.

Leslie/Terry...my heart is with you and I can't believe what that bastard
doctor said to you, and I hate doctors and have had many bad experiences,
and several breakups with them.  The SOB who told your husband that
shouldn't be practicing medicine.  I have been to over 75 doctors in my life
and the vast majority of them are prima donna bastards with no bedside
manner, and are not kind and caring.  There are a few exceptions, but not
many IMO.

I had scar tissue from a TUIP in 1995 that I just had reshaped with a TURP
last April.  The TURP almost ruined me (it just exacerbated my prostatitis),
and I am not happy with it, and I have a lot of problems (urgency, pain and
discomfort - never stops).  I believe I have prostatitis/urethritis/cystitis
(they are all related - if you read the latest studies); and God knows what
didn't heal right after the TURP (I will need another cystoscopy to tell -
which I'm not ready for right now).

I am currently taking Elmiron, at my request, as a last resort.  Elmiron is
for IC - but I have not been diagnosed with IC via hydrodistension under
anesthesia.  The problem is it takes 3 months to a year for Elmiron to work,
if it works at all - duh!!  I will  try it for 3 months, which is eternity
when you are in constant discomfort.

Please let us know what the damn uro says tomorrow.  I am concerned and do
care.  It sounds like he has to cut again if there is a stricture.  Why
didn't he say so when he did the damn cystoscopy, instead of making you all
wait.

Please get back to us, and I wish you two the very best...Pete

Did your husband have Laserscope PVP or as sounds more likely a Holmium
Laser TURP?
Derek.

Leslie and Terry,

My heart goes out to both of you.  If what you hear tomorrow is not
reasonable in your opinion - and only your opinion - I strongly suggest
you continue your search.  There are highly skilled uros who
successfully treat Terry's condition and who will actually match the
procedure to Terry instead of the other way around.  I have found that
most uros are like one trick ponies when it comes to dealing with BPH
and related problems, including post treatment complications.  Their
answer is always whatever procedure they have chosen to use in order to
make money.  If you live in southern California you may want to contact
Dr. Reiter at Clark Urology at UCLA.  He performs a variety of
procedures and is very experienced in each.  If you live on the east
coast, Dr. Te and Dr. Lin have excellent reputations.  If you live
elsewhere, please post this NG if your appointment tomorrow is not
productive.  Someone on this NG probably can recommend a quality,
patient oriented uro in you general area.

Best of luck.

Terry...that first Doctor was totally incompetent and he, (the doctor) knew
damn well!!   That's why he invited you to walk out and he did so loudly
enough, likely,  to ensure he had witnesses if you guys wanted to hire a
lawyer, later.  I'd still have a meeting with a lawyer.   I'd also try to
find a medical board to hear about this.  Lastly, an audience with the
hospital administrator along with that doctor would also help teach him that
more eyes are on him than just yours.    Doctors expect patients to be open
and honest.  Failure to do so will cause them to kick the patient out for
breaching doctor-patient professional relationship. Yet, that's exactly what
the doctor did to you.  So sorry to read of your troubles.

To bong (and to all)...first of all you can't sue a doctor for piddly a.s
sh.t like that (he would have to operate on the wrong side of your body - I
always say this).  Secondly (bong), you are a couple of months late here,
and the OP (Terry) never got back to any of us who endeared ourselves to her
originally, so I doubt she will even read your post.

Terry...If you read this, how come you never got back to us.  We cared
enough to comment on your post and you left us out in left field...Pete
