Just a quick question. How much detail of the prostate does an IVP
x-ray scan show? In otherwords would it provide enough information to
show if a person has BPH. Thanks, Walt

No.  With some of the bladder films you can often see a outline of part of
the prostate into the bladder, but it does not tell you much about how this
gland will change you urination.  IMO it can tell you about as much as a
rectal exam (very, very big gland vs less big).

Corky,

As I understand it the purpose of the IVP is to determine whether there
is anything else wrong in the urinary system, which includes the kidneys,
upper urethra (cable between kidney and bladder), and bladder. I
don't think its intent is to further examine the prostate. It is used to
rule
out other things towards a BHP determination.  I had one, its no big
deal.

Lewis.
