PVP Almost 2 Years Ago

I had read the posts on the various procedures and decided on PVP
because it had the quickest results and recovery.  It took a little
while until I found a uro who does it close enough to where I live.  I
had the procedure Sep 29, 2003.  I left that evening and removed the
catheter the following morning.  For a few days I had problems
emptying my bladder and made a couple trips back to the dr (about a 45
min drive each way).  Fortunately that cleared up within a week, but
I continued to pass blood for around 5 weeks.  That, too, finally
stopped and all was great.  My uro likes to do the WIT procedure and
wasn't big on laser jobs.  When I went back to him my stream was
strong and I completely emptied my bladder (although fully emptying
had never been a problem).  I have not taken any medications since the
procedure.   Now it's almost 2 years later and for a little while now
my stream has gotten  weaker and I am concerned about it.  With the
problems I had immediately afterwards and the weakened stream I have
now, I wonder if the dr didn't do a particularly good job of it.

Any comments or suggestions?

The PVP procedure creates a channel within your prostate, but does not
prevent the prostate from continuing to enlarge.  I also had a PVP in
May of 2003.  I am on Avodart and Saw Palmetto to keep my prostate from
enlarging further.  You might run this by your doctor.

The PVP burns a channel through the prostate.  It doesn't chop it down to
size.   Prostate will continue to grow,    unless you also take meds such as
Avodart or Proscar, but be sure you know ALL THE RISKS of those if you
decide to take them--everything from bitch tits to worse.   I refused and
put the question to my doctor...."Knowing what you know, would you take
them?"    I had one PVP.   No big deal.   I'll have another if I have to.
Check out this guys' blog...his doctor told him straight up and that may
answer your question as well...  http://bph-prostate-enlarged.blogspot.com/

Spread,    I visited the blog but did not see much of what the doctor told
about Avodart or Proscar.  Would you please share your knowledge with us
about the downside of taking those two medicines.
I had PVP on 8/17/05.  Everything is fine but the uro ask me to take Avodart
for months.  I perfer to have one PVP instead of having medicine.  Thank you.

Pat:  I have read about things like retro-, bitch tits, loss of libido, and
someone a long time ago tweaked my curiosity by post to this newsgroup
raising a precaution.  Your checking question might be with your doctor,
"Would YOU take this if he was in your position?"   I am growing ever more
sceptical about "safety" issues around just about everything, these
days...Maybe it's just me.   One poster to this newsgroup provided a lot of
info, but I can't find his note...it was around November 2004-ish.   It
seemed authoritative and it was extensive to the point I could hardly
understand what the posting was really trying to claim.  Sorry I cahn't be
of more help.

Spread,   Thak you for prompt response.  I have being followed this group for
a year and built a simple data base on Microsoft Excel to recoard many
helpful data and experiences from many posters.  I found that after I briefed
what you posted on 10/17/04 about DHT and doing a complete blood workup, I
remarked this guy, you, is very knowledgeable.
Since you mentioned one poster provided some info around November 2004, I
am searching it now.  If I find it, will let you know.  During my search, I
found that you started a thread of  "??Anyone Trying to treat causes?? and
within that thread, your story of  "due-diligence medicine" was so
interesting.
I reviewed my past two blood work reports.  They did checked Glucose, Bun,
Creatinine, ...HDL, LDL,...WBC, RBC, MCV, MCH,..PLT...and PSA, but no DHT.  I
think I should ask mu family Dr. or Uro to check DHT during my next blood
work checkup.
Thanks again

I appreciate the comments.

I had taken Saw Palmetto several years ago, but it did not seem to
help.  It did lower my PSA, but my uro said that was an artificial
number and suggested stopping it for a while and then getting a true
PSA reading.
Before the PVP I was on Cardura and Proscar.  I didn't care for them,
especially the Proscar, as they were affecting my sex life, and was
glad to get rid of them after the procedure.

I'm not sure what I will do next....
