I guess Ed that I,m just wanting to get the prostate healthy. My Psa has run
from 5.7 to 3.5 after PVP. I know that I have a very large prostate around
90 grams which is probably causing the higher numbers. I had a biopsy in
1997 which was negative. I guess I would like to get the prostate healthy
and retard its growth so any information I get from the group is
appreciated. I also was wondering if taking supplements like beta-sistoserol
helps. PSA is now 4.95 Thanks DP

Yeah, this is what all us BPH sufferers are after. We all want better
prostate health.

Saw palmetto seems to be the most popular of over-the-counter remedies
to improve prostate symptoms.

Soy and other plant sources contains beta-sitosterol, and this is
supposed to help BPH symptoms (but does not shrink the gland).

Proscar (finasteride) is a drug that does shrink the gland. But poster
Ed Friedman suggests that beta-sitosterol interferes with finasteride.
The info sheet that came with my proscar does not mention this. So I'm
wondering where this suggestion came from.

Hi Ed,
I took proscar for two years and it did lower my PSA but destroyed my
sex life. So what do you do?

Heh, it's been a while since someone asked me about my sex life.

I've been on Proscar for about 5 months. The plumbing still seems to
work pretty good. Sometimes I have retro, sometimes not.
