Newsweek has a "Special Edition: The Future of Medicine," which subscribers
are receiving now. P. 73 is an ad for Indigo Laser treatment of enlarged
prostate.
What do we know about indigo laser? Has anybody had it, or considered it? Is
there a literature? How does this compare with PVP? I have not yet gone to
their website, www.enlargedprostateinfo.com, but will.

There are sevearl sites that discuss both treatments. Do a google for
"indigo pvp".
Perhaps Indigo is an older version of laser treatment using heat rather
than actually vaporizing the tissue.
It uses a lower frequency with a wavelenght of 830 nanometers in the
infrared band.
PVP is called Greenlight laser and uses 532 nm wavelenght which is in the
green light band.
Where does the indigo name come from? The company? Indigo light is even
shorter than Green.

I had an Indigo in 2000 but relief was minor and I had to have a PVP last
year. The PVP was not only 10 times more effective but provided a very much
easier recovery. In my experience there is no reason Indigo should even be
around anymore except possibly for the investment some urologists might have
in the equipment. Jim W.
