I am three days past PVP and experiencing no pain. I don,t know what the
results will be yet but I went in the hospital at 7 AM and they started the
PVP about 8:30 AM I woke up in the recovery room and had some pain. They
quickly gave me a shot and after that I had no more pain. They never
inserted a catcher and right after the shot I was able to get up and pee.
They sent me home about 12:30 PM . I was able to pee but passing
considerable blood. My son and wife drove me home. The bleeding quit that
evening and I haven't had any pain. As for results I really don't know what
to expect at three days. Does anyone know what I should be experiencing at
three days ??? I had acute urinary retention before, three times I had to
have a catcher in the last year and a half from total blockage. I am
having frequent urination now day and night.Again does anyone know what to
expect at this stage of the game?? Thanks for any answer, D.P.

Dean,
I had a PVP last March. My expereience at 3 days was similar to
yours, although I experienced no real pain.
Here's what you can expect. As far as bleeding goes, it all depends
on how much lifting you do. I felt great, and as a result would do
things I probably shouldn't have done. Everytime I did, I would
experience slight bleeding. This went on for 1-2 months, if I
remember correctly.
The urge to urinate will continue to be very strong for a while, but
you will notice that it gradually decreases over time. The urge was
greatest after I'd been sitting for awhile and then would stand up.
However, you can hold it for much longer than you think you can, it's
just a bit uncomfortable. It's a mind thing.
As far as sleeping through the night, I rarely get up at night
anymore...only when I've had a lot to drink that night. At first, it
was once or twice everynight. Now I get up once a night maybe 30% of
the time.
I recently had a checkup with my uro. He informed me that he now only
does micorowave and PVP. About 75% MW to 25% PVP. When I made my
decision he was doing 4 types of surgeries and was about to add PVP.
He also stated that there is a 25% chance that those electing to have
MW will have to have another procedure within 5 years. But he said
he'd be surprised if I had to have anything done again. I'm hoping
he's right.
Good luck to you on your recovery.

It should simply get better day by day
I was lucky I went from a dribble before going down to theatre to a
veritable torrent straight after the op which continues 12 weeks later
I think theres a difference in recovery between median lobe enlargement and
central enlargement ........
I am extremely glad I had PVP

Yes, but isn't London expensive?
I got off the train at King's Cross desperate for a pee. Then this
attractive young lady came up to me and asked if I was looking for relief.
I told her that I was and that she was very perceptive to notice my
discomfort. Then she took me to her flat and allowed me to use her toilet.
Mind you, I thought 50UKP a bit expensive just to use the loo and her
remark, "Whatever turns you on" a bit strange -- but that's London for you.

Your experience is similar to mine. I am two months past my PVP. I had some
minor bleeding for about two weeks. After two months I still suffer from
urgency and frequncy. I am taking 2.5 mg of oxybutinin every 8 hrs. and this
has helped a little. I think I am slowly improving.

Irv,
Have you seen any improvement in frequency post-PVP?

Haven't seem any improvement. I'm 9 days past and urgency and frequently is
a lot worse than it was before PVP. Any helpful information would be
greatly appreciated. Dean

Dean,
Give it time. Your bladder and prostate has to heal. Urgency and frequency
is high at the beginning but as your prostate heals and your bladder gets
use to the unobstructed state, things get better.
I found that in the month after PVP, I was flushing out a lot of fluid that
I was retaining because of the residual and all the excess fuild around the
bladder and enlarged prostate. Once this was gone after about a month,
frequency and urgency gradually subsided.
I hope you make the same progress in the weeks ahead.
But give it time and take care not to do anything to stenuous as the
prostate is still healing and you don't want to tear anything.

Irv,
How big was your prostate and who was your surgeon?
How long have you had BPH and what were you taking for it?
Regards, Dan
