In us older men, it appears that prostate enlargement prevents fully
emptying the bladder
when one micturates. At least, so I have read.
My personal experience is that I cannot go too long without peeing. Maybe
two hours.
Then if I don't go, I may suddenly have to go, and can hardly reach the
toilet without
some spurting. Exactly why is this? Is it that the bladder is suddenly
totally full?
Why cannot I notice it gradually? Can someone explain this?
I think there is a mental effect too. When I realize I must go, I must go
NOW!

It's called Urgency. I have this too, in varying amounts. It sure
prevents the bladder from getting too full. And I have to avoid that,
because when I'm overfull, I can't pee at all, and that's trouble.
(Have to get catheterized.)
At night when I'm sleeping I don't have urgency, but I wish I did,
because a couple times now I have gone into retention at night and
needed to be catheterized.

You are on the right website. I had the same problem and had a PVP and
I can only say "why did I wait so long?". I skipped the drugs and went
directly to the procedure. In reading the postings on this site I feel
that men wait too long. So maybe you should get after it.
